Late yesterday afternoon I received a call from animal control (around 30 miles from where we live) about my black lab who was microchiped and has been missing for 5 years. They were closing and the person said they could meet us to drop off our dog. While we were waiting the family who has had the dog for the past 3 years called animal control looking for their missing black lab.
Not knowing what to do they took the dog back to animal control and have to wait until Monday to decide what the corect potocol is in this situation.
We are thrilled that our dog is alive and has been take care of for the past 3 years. Apparently a family with children rescued him 3 years ago from a shelter. I am sure it would be heartbreaking for them to give him up. We definitely want to see him and make sure he is well.
What a shocker. I can't belive that in 5 years no one else checked to see if he was microchipped. We have a large back yard which is fenced but he was a runner and would find a way out. He is a very loving dog and we assume he either got into someone's car 5 years ago or someone took him from our yard.
We currently have 2 dogs - a shepard mix and a beagle and 3 cats and we are watching MIL's 2 yorkies while she is in the hospital. We have a house full of animals (no kids). This is a little over whelming at times.
I wish they could work something out so we could see Blackie and maybe have visitation rights!! He loves to go boating in the summer.
Blackie was my husbands dog from before we met each other in 2002. So he is deciding what he thinks is best. But we don't even know if the decision would even be up to us at this point.
I wonder if this has happened before to other families and who does Blackie belong to?
