My dog was found after being missing for over 5 years...but theres a twist!

Oh I'm sorry. That had to be very disappointing. I hope you can manage to get in contact with the family.

We are definitely disappointed we did not get to see Blackie. It seem like there is a 2 year period unaccounted for. I don't know how Blackie ended up in a shelter 35 miles away from us. But I assume the new owners don't want to be contacted because they don't want to loose their family pet either. I'ts just sad... we have all of these cute pictures of Blackie that we would love the share with the family that has him now.

We are not sure what the family was told when they adopted him but maybe they think we abandoned or mistreated him. (But we loved him so much!!) I guess there are crazy people in the world and they are afraid.

BTW, if I bring in a dog to a brand new vet and I say is my dog and tell them I want to microchip it because this is a new area to us, they never check to see if it has a chip already in it.

So I guess I should scout out someone that lets their english bulldog out to dog nap it and claim it's mine and save 2 or 3 thousand and just spend $50 on a chip.

Tazzy where the hell do you see dogs that cost $2-$3k?!

And yep like I said, my Sadie has two chips because the last rescue never found the first one........my vet did.

I found a bunch. I wanted one until I saw the prices.

There is a bunch. There are some cheaper, but they come from puppy mills.

Cheaper is not the way to go with a bulldog. You get a cheap one from puppy mills and it will have so many health problems. Sometimes you can't trust the breeders too. Some of them are just bad. i know someone who is suing a breeder (not a bulldog breeder) because the puppy ended up with parvo and died. Really sad and they spent a ton on doing everything they could to save it.

I get that....they don't know you and you don't know them. I am just so pissed at animal control right now.....they could have handled this better so everybody would be happy. I feel that they could have at least given you their email. You could have communicated with these people..shared information and it would have been a win, win for both sides. You would have had the peace of mind knowing Blackie's enviroment and what not. What harm is an email. You could have told them you were not looking to take Blackie away from them....just always wondered what happened to him...glad to know he did not end up in a ditch...you know read your email and made a decision on contacting you back...Pissed all over again....LOL

Yep, it is hard to find a good breeder. My sister did all the right things and her dog that she paid big bucks for ended up with hip displashia (sp). She wanted to breed Sophie and had her checked out first...received this information was devistated and knew it was not right to breed her and pass that on to the puppies.

She just got another puppy for christmas and this one is guaranteed. If there are any problems with anything they will take the dog back and refund full amount paid...no matter what the age...they guarantee the, I guess how they breed their dogs, no breeding problems passed down in the generations.

The breeder that they got Sophie from did not have that type of guarantee for their puppies....but this second dog, they paid through the **** for...so $1000 and up is not unreasonable for healthy stock.

I would love a puppy...so would my kids...but I just can't do it...I take the rejects...and love every moment I get with them...how ever long that may be.

I know. That's why I said you could get cheaper, but I would never. But then again, I wouldn't pay 2-3k on a dog either. I was actually looking into rescuing a bull dog, but their lifespan really shocked me out of it.

Rejects and "used and pre-owned" animals FTW!

Jill was pre-owned, along with her brother Jack. They were returned after about a month because Jack vomited his food after they put flea medicine in it.

Who won on that ****es??? Jill ;) She always wins. That's why I stopped playing monopoly with her. It's that extra toe she has on both front paws. When a cat can hold a credit card, you got problems.

I had to bring Sherbert in for a rabies shot for paperwork that I had to submit, not that I wanted to at all.

He turned into a vicious insane cat and the second vet (first wouldn't even treat him) had to come out with those big **** gloves you use for either holding molten glass or training hawks and eagles to hold him to give him a shot.

I don't agree with any vaccines other than the normal ones in the beginning. But I had no choice because I needed documentation that he had his rabies shot.

LOL...Kittehs can be fun at the vet...LOL..when I get my new rejects...I abide by all the rules...LOL...up to date on all vacs.....

then when I bring them in for their yearly check ups...I tell them oh, "I'm bringing Kiwi in because she is just not feeling right"...yada, yada. My goal is to get a check up and blood work done. They are happy to ablige (sp). Get the check up..blood drawn...and then I get the oh, she has not had her vacs. "Yea, I know...but something is wrong with her she could be sick.....you would not get your kid's vaccinated if they were sick, would you?" That is where I get them....I mix it up from year to year...always walk out with a check up and blood draw....no vacs. I'm happy.

Chance was dying of cancer....and they were still trying to get me to vaccinate...I went out of my mind in a nice way...had to summon up Aunt Bea...made them feel like **** for even asking......I do this all in the name of LOVE!

Please don't get me wrong...I am not judgeing anybody who vaccinates thier pets. That is what you are supposed to do by law but that is only for Rabies after a certain age...puppies need alot if vaccinations. Must have them for their wellbeing...but after a certain age it is not necessary....the vets will continue to push the puppy **** on your adult dogs...it is all about the money. Most of the time nothing bad happens...but sometimes it does and it is not pretty. Because I take on animals that nobody would take due to their health and without me it would be a certain death sentance.... and what it costs me to get them to a healthy state......I feel that I have a right to be a little shady when it comes to getting the rabies vac....because I personally feel they were not taken care of in the first place and vaccinations could do them more harm then good after the age of 7. A little FIY..... dogs are considered geriatric at that age in the eyes of a vet.

The city is only covering their ****...they don't care that I may have a dog that is autoimmune with a compromised immune system because it is old/not taken care of by somebody else. This is the way I look at it. When one of my dog's get sick...I don't have to wonder if it was because of a vaccination.

oh, yea....I forgot I said....don't get me started....LOL

Like I said not judging anybody....I have to do this because I truly take the animals that nobody wants...I have only had a few short years with some of them...longer with others...and the hardest thing to do it put them down...but at least I give them a lot of love and a little more time.

People who do stuff like that to animals should be hung on a tree and skinned.

My heart just aches for the ones that are not pretty, young, healthy, enough to be saved. So I take them one, two at a time. I do what I can. My hubby is not a big animal lover...which I guess is good...because if he was I would have a bunch of them. So in my mind one or two is better than none.

Just wanted to give everyone an update:

We asked animal control if they could at least explain our situation to the current owners and give them our e-mail address. We received an email and a current photo of Blackie/Charlie. In the email she said they have had Blackie since Nov 2006 (he disappeared Thanksgiving wkend 2006) and that a co-worker told them he was abandoned and they thought they were doing a good thing.

She said that he slept by her son's cribs when they were infants and that he is loved and treated like royalty! We are so very happy to hear this.

OF course, it still leaves questions on how he ended up 35 miles away. (he must have got into someone's car who did not live in our area) I'm sort of happy that there is no time unaccounted for and that he has been taken care of since he disappeared. They have brought him to the vet recently ...getting him checked because he seems to have shaking episodes every few months. They don't know if it is a neurological disorder.

We have only received one e-mail so far but we are hoping to at least be able to see him again!

That is great news!!! So glad that you got some more info and have at least a way to contact so you can let them know you have no intention of trying to get him back, just wanted to know what happened to him and that they know you loved him. Hopefully in time you can see him again.

Great news Nancy! He has boys to play with! :bliss: Thanks for the update.
