Shhh....don't tell Jill Cataldo we sell coupons here....

That is how we determine the keepers. If you can come back after we completely tear you apart, you get to stay. It's trial by fire. They end up here, post something stupid about "stealing" peelies and we crucify them.

We need them to come here. If we don't have hot deals we turn on each other. We need fresh meat occasionally.

Is this CW's official recruiting slogan? :giggles:

Not unlike Frugalista....and EC.

We see it.....we can't stop it.

We are strapped to the train tracks...and the 1:30 train is due.

not much we can do but hope it doesn't hurt toooo much.

That's part of her charm.

I think SuperJill is writing a response and using checks and balances, running it through her head. Or ...she doesn't give a rip because "she got hers."

Unless I'm way off base, I suspect she won't (won't be allowed to?) respond.

There is no constructive response for her to make. She has aligned herself with CIC and the industry (this is clear from her recent blog posts). She will find out soon (if she doesn't already know) that one can't keep a foot in both worlds. You can be aligned with manu/CIC, or with the consumer. Those areas are mutually exclusive. Ralph Nader isn't getting his paycheck from Chevy. There is a reason for that. One can't be a consumer advocate if being remunerated by manufacturers.

This whole episode just illustrates the bipolar nature of the industry. Manus want Jill speaking for them because she is trusted and well-known, however speaking for the industry (will in the long run) alienate her from the consumer. She is already watering down her couponing advice. Soon, she will get to the point where the only thing they will allow her to advise is to match sales to current coupons. Keep a price list.

What the manus don't get (are too stupid to get) is when they have totally marginalized her ability to teach anything but the most vanilla use of coupons, her value to the consumer will have been effectively neutralized. Her message to manus on the subject of the "couponing pulse" at that point will be all theoretical, because if she can't do it, or teach it, then all she can do is read about it and postulate (which is what Bud does and what Hip2Save does) and at that point her perspective will be of no effective value to the manus. Not that they will care, they like good public speakers, not people who actually understand what consumers want, why they behave as they do, and what they are actually doing.

PS - I can still go into WM any day of the week and find all the peelies I will ever need

Peelies are the only thing I shop for at WM at all anymore.

The people who went on the Extreme TLC Show, the Nathan's who kept pushing for coupon coverage, the Jill's, etc, are all complete sell outs, period. And as far as the first two groups, extremely short sighted. They allowed themselves to be ****d out by the media(with very little benefit to them), and screwed millions of other people in the process, without a second thought. Idiocy at its finest.

I don't see the "Jill's" as ever being truly a part of the couponing community. Pure opportunist, ready to ride whichever wave was available. Predators if you will. If stepping on couponers wasn't an available jump off point, someone else would have been used.

More than ever, I think twice when telling people about qponing, and think others should as well. Too many idiots pressing for mass attention, on something only a small percentage of people can actually successfully do, doesn't lead to anywhere good.

Couponing isn't a free for all, or a government program, its a hell of a lot of work, and more and more people seem to feel entitled to save or use coupons(and the work of others on matchups/etc) to promote their blog/website/thing, without truly putting any work in.

What about when you taught

Blackbelting? That wasn't what the store and manufacturer intended regarding the sale with coupons and catalinas. Was that illegal? You can't have it both ways Jill.

Why are you now trying to wash away what you previously have taught couponers?

Why DOES it say banned under your name, if I may ask?

Obviously we have a few cat lovers. I am not one. I enjoy dogs (OMG i first typed DONGS lmao) but I am allergic to cats and DH had three of them that were complete ASSHOLES and I ended up moving them out. And now I'm "banned". Obviously not really banned or I wouldn't be here

Interesting to see the turn in this thread.

I hadn't quite thought through the fact that Jill would put something out there that could potentially hurt us. Her stance since before EC came out is that she could see the future damage and wanted nothing to do with it. I guess enough $$ has been thrown her way to change her opinion. Everyone has a price, right?
