Ennui, did the last snow ever melt? How many inches have you had this year?
The first time I met my dad, which was about 10 years ago, I went to MA to meet his family. I was shocked when I got there because they had about 3' of snow. :faint: He thought nothing of it. Which is reminding me...his wife went on vacation while I was there and the entire time I was there I vacuumed constantly because of the sand that would get tracked throughout the house. Why doesn't NE use salt?!
I was down to just a few inches of snow, and only in areas under deep tree cover. My driveway had turned to soft, & in places, squishy mud. The oil delivery truck left deep ruts yesterday. :gah:
This is New England, we get snow. Sometimes we get tons of it.
As far as salt, my town uses very little because town water comes from underground aquifers.
There are certain state/interstate highways I avoid in every storm because that area's state DPW crews never use salt, partially because of aquifers, partially because of local dept head's choice. There are always accidents there because of road ice.
My town & many here are super-green, we recycle like crazy, ban the use of many lawn fertilizers and avoid salt to protect the water & land.
Some towns here get water from the Quabbin Reservoir and so they use road salt like crazy. Other towns, not fed by the Quabbin, & not as green, have local DPW heads who want bare roads, they salt heavily.
Salt is also more expensive than just sand. NE is notorious for being frugal, but in most cases here the lack of salt is an environmental/green issue, not money.
