Now what?

Let me first say. I usually read the whole thread first, but I didn't (getting death stare). If usually heart tests all neg. ask for stress test. Also, I have chest pain a lot of times, shortness of breath like asthma attack. Several ER visits. Dx: anxiety attacks. It's unbelievable what it can and does do to you physically. I don't take med's, but shopping for a new doc to help me manage my stress symptoms better because I can't sell my husband or kids.

Hahahaaa My DH was on vacation last week and besides me fighting this cold my blood pressure was really high. Why because he was smoking in the bathroom all week. Ewwww it was killing me. He also has no regard for the time or that I still have a lot of stuff to do all day long. UGH.

Fast forward to Monday, I'm alone I take my blood pressure and it was low. Next husband will be a non smoker.

sorry, don't have time to read all the way thru thread but....what is your cholesterol like? I agree w/stress test. Also, maybe mersa I worked with a lady once who had it in her chest...not sure if I spelled that right but that was giving her the chest pain as well. I would get all your levels checked though including cholesterol, blood pressure etc. etc. Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

Somebody is going to get hurt before this is over! I'm agitated and buzzed on sugar because I'm eating donuts and candy like they are going out of style. Really want coffee, but that will make want to smoke more. Could also use a glass of wine, but that would be worse than coffee.

WHY did I think this was a good idea?

How are you doing babe? Mebbe do some cleaning or book reading? :9:

I hope you get some answers soon.

Years ago I had extreme chest pain and went to the ER. It ended up being Tietze's Syndrome. I never would have guessed the pain was caused by inflammation, it felt like I was having a heart attack. I lived on Advil for a few weeks. Here's the Wiki info for you:

The primary presentation of the syndrome is significant, acute pain in the chest, along with tenderness and some swelling of the cartilages affected, which is commonly palpable on examination. Although many times it can be extremely painful, to the point of being debilitating, Tietze's Syndrome is considered to be a benign condition that generally resolves in 12 weeks. However, it can often be a chronic condition. The pain can be identical to a heart attack and can cause hyper ventilating, anxiety attacks, passing out, panic attacks and temporary numbness/paralysis.

Many cases of heart attack victims have been re-considered and improperly diagnosed, due to the identical nature of the symptoms.

Perceived pain is often exacerbated with respiration.

Costochondritis symptoms are similar to Tietze's, the prime difference being that the pain radiates to the arms and shoulders in the latter.

WHY did I think this was a good idea?

Because it is! You're going through this dark tunnel of hell, but at the end you will be so much happier, healthier and oh so proud of your self. PLUS your kids will see how strong you are and they prolly won't pick up the habbit. :flowers:

So after a week of having a dull aching chest pain, I caved went in to see the dr. It has been streaking in my upper back along my left shoulder blade & arm as well. I've had some shortness of breath and at times feel as though my heart is beating out of my chest.

So they do an EKG which is fine. Take a chest Xray. I'm clear. Run a battery of blood tests. Fine. Fine. Fine. Dr. says if it persists come back and we'll dig more. For the time being, I'm sent home with a RX for Motrin(ummm...ok) & another for Norco(generic for Vicodin - Wow! Really?). I was diagnosed with "A-typical chest pain" which basically means we hear you lady, but we can't find any physically wrong with you.

The pain is centrally located right over my heart. This particular episode started Sunday night and has not subsided. The only reprieve I get is when I'm sleeping. I am not in a lot of pain, but I am very uncomfortable. Laying on my left side or directly on my back aggravates it and causes me to become lightheaded/see stars.

Suggestions? Thoughts? I just want the ache to go away, but more importantly if there is something wrong I want it taken care off. :surrender:

I would go to a heart specialist ,I would really persue this until I got a real reason why is this happening !

Can I assume this was a fully accredited hosp? As far as I know - St. James in Olympia Fields

They ran enzyme blood tests which all came back negative? Yes

Do you smoke? No, but I smoked for 20 years before quitting.

Are you on birth control pills or patch? Neither

Was this your first EKG? Yes.

Have you been drinking more caffeinated drinks lately? No. I rarely drink pop or tea & I never drink coffee.

I have no issues with either my cholesterol or blood pressure.

I'm beginning to think my initial thoughts of this being related to stress is correct as a number of you have suggested as well. I've been putting those thoughts to the back of my brain because I'm not anymore stressed than normal. I'm actually in a lull if you wanna call it that. I'm going to look into getting a stress test done(thanks Nanny). I spent all day today in aching pain again. So if I wasn't stressed before, I am now. :surrender:

I hope you are able to find a way to distract yourself. I never smoked in my house so when I quit it helped me massively as I didn't have the same constant triggers that most have. :huggy:

Thanks! we don't smoke in the house either, but we do smoke out on the sun porch. I'm mostly hiding in the bedroom so I can't see mistah out there smoking
