Competitive eating

No I definitely do not think competitive eating should be a sport. It is very wasteful and really promotes unhealthy eating and obesity, which we should be discouraging, especially through sport and fitness.

Very good point! Obesity is already a very big problem and competitive eating encourages it.

I would say that it is not a sport, since like TPJr said it contradicts the idea of staying in shape. But it is a very interesting competition to watch, and it is amazing how the winners are usually skinny.

Do you think competitive eating is a sport? I think it is. The amount of food these guys down in a short period is just mind blowing. I don't even know how they train their stomach to hold that much food.

If people think that this is a competitive eating a sport that is insane. People that eat that fast and that much just to get a flipping prize is so stupid. Can you imagine how their stomachs would feel after the event.

No it doesn't. Most of the men and women competing are of small stature and work out constantly. The time they aren't competing they are eating healthy and keeping in shape. They have it down to a science.

There is a show Man vs. Food and the host has done interviews where he talks about how he usually eats nothing but salads and works out for like 3 hours a day because he knows that the amount of food he ingests isn't normal and he needs to counteract it by being healthy the other 99% of the time.

Oh I can't watch these people eating like that. It is so abnormal and disgusting. I do not consider this a sport and think the person who devised this event needs to have the head examined.I have purposely expressed my view to anyone who will listen to perhaps do away with this activity. I do find it absurd!

I do not think that eating like that is a sport. It is really disgusting. It does make me sick to watch them eat like that. I really don't know how anyone can eat like that and not get sick or why anyone would want to get sick just to eat like that. This is not something that I enjoy watching at all.

Yeah, I think competitive eating is a sport. You're trying to eat more than your opponent, correct? You train and alter your diet for competitions to perform at your best, right? It seems like a sport to me. I've watched some guys devour hotdogs and then be crowned Champion. It definitely doesn't get as much coverage as other sports such as Football, but I consider it a sport. I could never handle eating as much as the competitors. I don't know how they do it!

You train your body for it and compete like any other sport but I do not consider it to be a sport. I believe you have to train in order to improve your body and become in better shape in order to excel in your sport. Competitive eating is deffinetly not a sport and I do not consider nascar to be either based on this principle.

Don't you get a little hungry when watching competitive eating? I know I do and I'm not the only one. Few people know that those guys follow healthy diets, they only see the contest, and 'since it's on TV, it's good for me'.

But then those are the same idiots that see a person flying in a movie and go out and try it. That is the social minority or inbred morons that will do it. Some people may try to eat like them but will find out within 30 seconds it was a mistake and no harm will come of it.

I used to be able to eat like one of these guys when I was in high school because I was constantly working out and doing things. It is sort of a **** for tat; not many people can just wake up one day and decide to do it. They actually have to train their bodies for it so the people who think they can just do it learn quickly that they shouldn't bother.

You're right, and whoever likes this kind of activity should keep doing/watching it.

There's seriously 75+ comments on this? Is there any form of exercise in training? No? Okay. I'm done with this argument, as it is not a sport.
