No I definitely do not think competitive eating should be a sport. It is very wasteful and really promotes unhealthy eating and obesity, which we should be discouraging, especially through sport and fitness.
Do you think competitive eating is a sport? I think it is. The amount of food these guys down in a short period is just mind blowing. I don't even know how they train their stomach to hold that much food.
Very good point! Obesity is already a very big problem and competitive eating encourages it.
No it doesn't. Most of the men and women competing are of small stature and work out constantly. The time they aren't competing they are eating healthy and keeping in shape. They have it down to a science.
There is a show Man vs. Food and the host has done interviews where he talks about how he usually eats nothing but salads and works out for like 3 hours a day because he knows that the amount of food he ingests isn't normal and he needs to counteract it by being healthy the other 99% of the time.
Don't you get a little hungry when watching competitive eating? I know I do and I'm not the only one. Few people know that those guys follow healthy diets, they only see the contest, and 'since it's on TV, it's good for me'.
But then those are the same idiots that see a person flying in a movie and go out and try it. That is the social minority or inbred morons that will do it. Some people may try to eat like them but will find out within 30 seconds it was a mistake and no harm will come of it.
I used to be able to eat like one of these guys when I was in high school because I was constantly working out and doing things. It is sort of a **** for tat; not many people can just wake up one day and decide to do it. They actually have to train their bodies for it so the people who think they can just do it learn quickly that they shouldn't bother.
A place to debate everything and anything!
