What's new

Who's the most recognizable athlete in the world?

Yeah, i'd say Micheal Jordan as well. He really has too much history, memorabilia and products out there for people to not know him or forget about him. I think he's the most recognizable of all time.

I'd have to say micheal Jordan. Besides sports he's done Space Jam, Hanes commercials, shoes, clothing, etc. He really has a lot going on

Either Michael Jordan or David Beckham. When I was a bit young, I remember hearing about Beckham on T.V. without even knowing that he played for soccer. As for Michael Jordan, I knew since I was a young child. They are both wildly popular.

I would say Tiger Woods. My parents know no athletes whatsoever, but when Tiger is on the TV, they always go, "hey, isn't that Tiger Woods?"
Even when Michael Jordan, Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky came up, they didn't know who those were.

My vote goes with Michael Jordan, Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Tiger Woods, David Bekham and Ronaldo. Each one of them has made an everlasting impression on the public due to their talent, looks and off field antics. If I had to pick just one, I'd go with Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi. I am sure that the latter two are more recognizable in other parts of the world than Jordan.

I have to go with both Michael Jordan and David Beckham. They are both awesome athletes. One of the best that I can think of off the top of my head.

Well, maybe just in Romania, he starred in My Giant.

Gheorghe Dumitru Mureșan, born February 14, 1971, also known as Ghiţă, is a retired Romanian professional basketball player. At 7 ft 7 in (2.31 m), he is one of the tallest players in NBA history, along with Sudanese player Manute Bol, who was also 7 ft 7 in.

Originally when I saw this post I wanted to say Babe Ruth. Everyone, both old and young knows who the Babe is. After some thought, however, I realized that surely it must be Michael Jordan. Babe Ruth's name may be what makes him so widely known. Jordan has both the name and the image. People recognize a silhouette of Jordan in the Jumpman design, and they know it is him. If that isn't most recognized, then what is?

You're right. It would have to be Michael Jordan. I don't think any other sports figure has had that much prominence and advertisements and even starred in a movie! A close second would be a tie between Tiger Woods and David Beckham for me.

Jordan, I agree, a huge star.
Almost everybody knows him, even people that don't know anything about basketball, like me.

I'm a proud Filipino so I'll say Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao. He is in Boxing and he is one of the best. He is the Filipinos pride! He also stared in some movies although most of them tanked but hey, it still counts as movies right? Hahaha...

This might just be because I'm from the UK, but I don't have a clue who Michael Jordan is, and I don't believe I've ever seen the bloke. In terms of famous faces with celebrities, I don't see how anybody couldn't recognize the one and only Lionel Messi, or Cristiano Ronaldo. They're probably the two most famous football (soccer) players in the world.

Kobe Bryant would be the most recognizable athlete in the world of sports today. He's led the Lakers to 5 NBA Championships throughout his career, an NBA MVP, a future Hall of Fame, and many more to add up to his resume and list of achievements in his illustrious career. His popularity and fame has spread out all across the world along with basketball as a worldwide sport and the NBA that telecasts his games almost in each and everyone's television set. With all his acrobatic and high-flying moves, Kobe has made a name for himself amongst all other competitors in all sports. Even now his rise and fame continues to attract millions all over the world as he continuous to carry the Lakers back to championship glory and bring showtime back to L.A.
