What's the weirdest item on your school supply list?

For my Kindergartner, they are asking for 36 glue sticks. Not weird, but curious what they do with so many.... and they asked specifically requested for Elmers only. (Glad walmart had them for 0.10)

I teach K and we ask for 24 and tell the parents to stock up while they are cheap. No matter how many cute rhymes you teach them about putting caps on and only using a dab they still go through glue sticks like crazy. I have 100 dollars to spend on my classroom and bought 300 gluesticks at walmart last week in addition to what the kids bring.

Do your schools request other supplies? On top of notebooks, markers etc we have to buy kleenex, paper towels, clorex wipes, 2 packs baby wipes, pack of all purpose copy/printer paper, hand sanitzer.

All 4 of mine need those too.

Last year, my DD and her friends were told to go to some supply closet to get PT and they couldn't believe it - huge stacks of paper towels with kids names from the back to school drop off. Some who had graduated two and three years ago??? :giggles:

Some of the teachers I've seen have bins and they put all paper towels and kleenex in those at the beginning of the year. Most of the classrooms I've seen (public and private schools) don't have that much storage room.

I have 4 kids in school. I stock up on the basics this time of the year and have my own school supply bins. Then when they run out, they can go there. Certain things are needed IMMEDIATELY like note cards, pens and pencils, so it's good to have extras of those. I've found that as they get older, like middle school, they need more composition books, but then not in high school (at least in my district), so right now I have about 8 of those!

A large grey sweatshirt for a kindergarden girl who wore size 4T. This one stumped us, how large?? is it supposed to fit the kid, the teacher, or the principal? She was still able to wear her sweatshirt in high school.

probably for painting/art class, just get an adult small.

either that or the teacher is trying to expand her workout attire.......

The sweatshirt was for reading. they painted a character from a book on it and all put their sweatshirts on to read as a team. Stupid. Waste of time and money. Well not really money, she wore that shirt just the other day.

They want the 2 gallon bags for baggy books to send home.

I am a school supply separatist. I know for a fact that in elementary school here, supply needs are overstated so people with the money to buy them send enough to share with those who don't send any supplies for their kids.

I know this is not the teachers problem, and I will send more supplies as needed, but I am not in a position to subsidize other students.

It was a few years ago but I had to buy hair elastics for DS when his hair was long and it needed to be pulled back for shop. It was actually on the list and I could not believe I was at Wags buying hair elastics for my son... I got him brown so I could tell if he was snagging my black ones. :giggles:

No worse than me buying Nair for my son. Never thought I would have to do that. Now I just pick it up for him when its on sale.
