...ok found some smoked ham hocks to throw in!
...oh ya.....some 99cent bread too! and some salad!
Just put the bone in the crockpot with a little water and let it heat and take all the drippings off the bone. Then will give to my mom for pea soup and to flavor green beans.
Monday was a cheddar cheese broccoli ham pasta casserole. DH said he was finished with dinner, I put it away, he took it out an hour later heated up a little, put it away, an hour later..... And yesterday and today he took some to work for lunch. Do you think he liked it?
For tonight: I took some of the ham, diced it, sliced potatoes, made a cream sauce with onions and a smidge of garlic, bake in oven: Scalloped potatoes with ham and a salad. Sometimes I throw peas or broccoli into the casserole and skip the salad.
Then I crocked the peas, ham bone in an onion bag with onions, garlic, carrots. Tomorrow, out comes the bag. Smush the peas, then dice ham and carrots, toss in diced taters. Pea soup with corn bread.
Next week, we'll have leftover pea soup at least once. I have to hide it so he doesn't take it all to work.
Ham is his favorite meat. We have it at least once every other week in some form - sometimes a whole ham, then I try to space out the leftovers. I dice ham and freeze it so it's ready for a quickie recipe. I'm not crazy about freezing any of the cream sauce casseroles - mostly because they are so easy to make. Now to teach DH how to make a roux.
