What is your take on the Arizona illegal immigration situation?

I wonder how the government would react if illegals turned into terrorists and started blowing things up. I bet then we would take it more seriously. To know that a terrorist can get into the US lickity split through Mexico into the US, should upset more people. But I guess since it hasn't happened YET, it's all good.

Only a matter of time.

But just because they pay taxes doesn't make them any less illegal. It just shows that our system is useless in that they're able to get a tax id in the first place. :surrender:

I like the fair tax system becouse then everyone illegal aliens, hooker, drug dealers and everyone else pays on what they spend it might help but I still think we should air drop them back to their repective countries

If there wasn't an endless supply of people willing to work for $2/hour, employers would have to pay what people ARE willing to do the work for. If someone is going to come back with, well, then things would cost more..... yes, probably true, but think of all the less taxpayers would have to dish out in aid.... i'm willing to pay a little more for my tomatoes and way less in taxes.

btw, my mother cleaned office buildings in downtown Chicago for 40-ish years ... it was a union job that paid reasonably well for an immigrant with no schooling and no experience ..... people just naturally tend to gravitate towards the jobs that people who came to this country before them have

and i bet there are plenty of people on welfare who would be willing to work those $2/hour jobs, except that it wouldn't be enough to support their families.... and as long as there are so many willing to work for $2, they will remain $2/hour jobs.

I agree with that. I just want to correct the misconception that none of them pay taxes. Everytime this debate starts, someone starts talking about how American would love the jobs and they would pay taxes unlike the illegals.

Which administration are you talking about because this problem didn't just materialize since 2008. The problem has been escalating for years.

I have no issues with the states trying to take action, but I think that giving police an order to stop anyone who they think may be illegal is going to get ugly when there is a mistake and an actual citizen is detained. I can't imagine that ICE is going to be better than any other government agency. For instance the TSA has my friends son on the terror watch list. He is a blonde haired, blue eyed 10 yr old.

which is fine with me he gave somone, somewhere a reason to watch him if hes not hiding anything he shouldnt care if they watch him

Well aside from the 10 year old part :giggles: unless you want racial profiling, the blonde haired blue eyed part shouldn't play a role, right? :surrender:

But there will always an endless supply. We will deport them and they will come back. If we get rid of all the Mexicans, we will get new ones from somewhere else. Chinese come over in shipping containers. As long as employers can get away with it, the ones who are willing to exploit people will continue to do it. They will pay fines and continue to do it. If you punish the employers and I mean really punish them for using undocumented workers, then the stream in may slow or stop and we could have a chance at some change.

It is against the law for employers to employee illegals just like it is against the law for them to be here.

i'm talking about both administrations, this one and the last. Could it be that no one wants to lose the Hispanic vote?

I just heard talk of some bill making Puerto Rico our 51st state.... ummm, do we get a say in that? Do the people of PR get a say in that?
haven't figured out what's going on there, but it would be a big voting block... just saying...

Jill doesn't want PR to become a state. She goes over there to her many man servants and does things she couldn't do with them here.

;)

That is what I am getting at. I think that racial profiling is inevitable when you want police to stop anyone they suspect might be illegal, not just when they have already had cause to stop them in the first place.

There are non Hispanic illegals, but most people go right to the Hispanics when the illegal issue comes up

If we implement real immigration laws and actually enforce them, there shouldn't be an endless supply. Do people come and go like this in other countries? I don't think so.

Poor Lucy She's telling me enough with the immigration talk for now... TAKE ME OUT!!!

What? He is 10, he just happens to have the same name as someone else. There is no reason for him to be on the terror watch list. He hasn't done anything.

I wonder if I'm on that list? :snicker:

As long as there are poor people who want a better life, there will always be an endless supply. If it gets harder to get in, it will slow but I don't think it will go away completely.

Please don't think I support illegals being here, I don't. I think we need to enforce the immigration laws on the books and enact harsher penalties for the people who exploit them.

I think that is totally what is going on. Nobody wants to lose the Hispanic vote. It's the 800 lb gorilla in the room.

If we make Puerto Rico a steak, then they are going to want a baked potato!
