What determines it is a vacation?

Is it the length of stay?
Is it where you stay?
Is it distance from home?
Is it what you do?

If you went to Vegas for the weekend, is it a vacation?
If you went to Vegas for a week, is it a vacation?
If you went to Vegas to visit your parents and stayed at their house for a week, is it a vacation? :giggles:

A friend of mine had a business meeting in Los Angeles and his wife had to attend a conference in San Diego later that same week. They brought their daughters with and went to Disneyland. Was that a vacation?

You have a :quotes: vacation house :quotes: a couple of hours away from home. Is it a vacation if you go there for the weekend? Or does the stay have to be longer?

What do you consider as a vacation?

Any time when you're chillin' and not workin'...................THAT'S a vacation. :)

And you don't even have to go anywhere per say...................that my dear is called a STAYcation.

So, technically, when DD naps for say 2 hours or so and I lay on the sofa and watch The Waltons....I am on staycation...Or is it a vacation since they live in Virginia and I am transported there while watching???

Whichever makes you happy my dear. :flowers:

Signed,

An avid Waltons watcher. :)

A vacation is when you can get away from the stress of every day life, and have a little fun. I look forward to not having to worry about anything for those few days.

To me, it's going away from home for 5+ days and not having to cook (very much) or do laundry (very much.) When we had a cottage, it was very hard for me to consider going there a "vacation" because it was more work than being home. When we go to MIL's cottage for the night or weekend, it isn't a vacation, it's a weeend. When we go away for softball, it's not a vacation, it's softball. When we go to FL, we'll probably stay at my mom's from now on & she'll probably be there. That's fine, it's free. :giggles:

I consider anytime I'm away from my house a "vacation". Even though when we are on vacation I still have to do my Full-Time Mommy job, it's the change of scenery that makes it a vacation for me.

I'm glad you threw that out there. (I thought of you in a scenario that I was wondering about.)

When you did your little girlfriend getaway to MN, was that a double dip because of the change in scenery and not having to be hands on for your full-time mommy gig?

I guess I agree with you there Valerie - getting away from my house and the regular chores, 4 walls, etc. is pretty much how I define a vacation.

Still, I don't quite think of our annual trip to my Grandmas' houses for Christmas as a "vacation," although I guess it is....

If I hie off to my camping trailer that is in my backyard, I consider that a vacation. As long as I'm out of the house and read my book, that's heaven to me

I'm like Valerie, if I'm away from home, it's a vacation. We generally go to AZ to visit family once a year, and we've been to NYC, Atlantic City, and Sonoma (twice) for the weekend for family weddings. Otherwise, we haven't been "on vacation" since our honeymoon in 2001.

My once a year weekend getaway with my sister/cousins for a Cubs trip is totally a double dip. Almost strange being away from the family and only having myself to worry about but I love the recharge it gives me and I won't stop taking those 2-3 days every year. My DH also takes a yearly snowboarding trip with his brothers/nephews and gets the same "break".
