What's new

what fills your family up?

and when i dieted as a youngster/teen i ate copious amounts of air popped popcorn doused in fake butter spray and sprinkled generously with salt or flavored salts. and when i tired of that i ate hard boiled eggs until nausea set in, lol. and would eat pounds of grated carrots drizzled with kraft diet italian dressing. and drank saccharine pop until it seeped out my pores. i miss the fresca days.

Since I have switched myself to lean protein, veggies, very little carbs or fruits, I feel full all the time. And my portions are normal to small size but the protein and veggies keep you satisfied much longer than the carbs do.

And drinking lots of water.

But are they thin? My DS12 is about 10-15lbs. overweight and its all in his gut and moobs.

The largest one of them all is my youngest, he actually won't be 15 for 2 months. 6'2 202 pds. He carries it in his upper body 2. Its a fact that boys cannot grow muscle until puberty kicks in. Well when pub. kicked in all those jiggles are turning to muscle. Doc. always told me as long as the height/weight both go up together that all is good. It may sound like a lot to weigh but like Doc. says he does have a grown mans body, if not bigger. Happy, healthy, active what more can I ask for?

That's interesting to me because shortly after stir-fry we are usually all hungry

I forgot to put that we also had brown rice with it

my DH has gotten up from the dinner table got sandwich fixing and came back to the table to make a sandwich, pisses me off

last friday after he had 2 double cheese burgers and oven fries with season salt on them an hour later he was hungry I said 'do you realize that you just ate 1800 calories in hamburgers not including the potatos, which I dont know how to add' he asked how so I explained it to him..........he didnt say he was hungry again

Cookies??? :hides:

Actually, lately we have been eating tons of grapes - 8-10 lbs a week. I wash them and put them out on the table everyday and the kids are always eating them. As far as meals, I'm not sure, but we have also been eating lots of salads with our dinners since they have been so free/cheap plentiful lately.

OMG :faint:

We had pizza as a birthday treat for DS #3 Monday night. I ordered 3 large Dominos pizzas. One of them wasn't the right thing, so they brought us another large for free. We had 4 large pizzas and there were no leftovers!

All my boys are skinny, like their waist is 23 or 25 skinny and they are 5'7" or 5'8". They eat all the time. They eat lots for dinner and then have some snack around 8. I make stirfry with rice, egg rolls, pot stickers....they eat it all up and are hungry an hour or two later. I've been buying lots of cuties and those seem to work. Also apples. One DS puts cinnamon on them and puts them in the toaster oven for a bit.

OMG they must eat you out of house and home!!!

I think boys especially need a lot of calories. They just pack it in. As far as full goes I find protein content is an important consideration. Be sure to bulk out the meal with plenty of veggies.

I plan meals and offer fruits and veggies the rest of the time. Things like hummus seem to help make the veggies more filling or apple slices with peanutbutter or some cheese. A little extra protein in those snacks seems to go a long way.

I usually make brown rice also.

My kids seem like they are always hungry. They can eat in less than an hour after dinner. Then again, they are active young teenagers and not overweight at all (wish I could say the same about myself).

In my house I find that DH will never eat anything beyond the meal I serve, which is balanced 8 out of 10 times. He will have dessert later by 9pm, usually by himself since I don''t eat that late and DD is asleep by then. He is a very structured eater, not a snacker at all.

DD9 is a healthy eater but her portions are so small... she has micro meals many times per day. She will eat dinner (little) at 6-7pm, then a fruit at 7-8pm than a cheese stick at 8-9pm before bed.... healthy stuff. Lately she is eating a pint of strawberries a day, TG they are cheap right now.

As for me.... I could survive on bread :(

I don't remember where I heard this, it's been a while. Lot's of people confuse hunger pains with thirst. I guess it feels like your hungry even though you ate not long ago, but aren't drinking nearly enough. I'm probably guilty of that. Just have to watch what your drinking because everything is so high in calories.

We snack on fruits or icee's/popsicles several hours after dinner.

Gotta be careful with those **** great tasting cuties though. I was told by a doc in the ER that they get more people in with RENAL FAILURE because of cuties. They have underlying renal problems that they are unaware of and the potasium shuts kidneys down. Lovely, so much for healthy snackin!

hummm... i don't eat because i'm hungry. i eat because its breakfast time or lunch time or dinner time... i constantly forget to eat at work because i'm so insanely busy... like it was said earlier it may just be bored eating that make people eat too much... i can go most of the day a realize i never ate a thing because i don't have time to eat. (i know this is just as unhealthy as eating too much but its a different perspective on being full)

So nobody snacks after dinner in your house? My DS12 wants to eat nonstop out of boredom. :surrender:

Not at my home. We eat meals at meal times. We aren't snackers. The more you eat, the more you want to eat and eat. It's hard to say what will work for one family will work for another. We are skinny people by nature and we don't eat junk food. That's half the battle.
