No UFO (sub-)forum would be complete without the Vymaanika-Shaastra ( as a Google book ) , a purportedly channeled document about ancient Indian airplanes. Those so-called Vymaanas (flying machines) are powered by steam, electrical and/or solar power.

The most astonishing thing about the craft described in the book (with pretty complete descriptions on how to build them, including how to make all the materials needed like metals, crystals, acids, mirrors, etc.) is that they resemble various types of UFOs that have been seen in the past centuries.

From the 1950 book "The Flying Saucers are Real" by Donald Edward Keyhoe (p. 60), the following eyewitness account describes a strange craft apparently seen in 1897:

It just so happens that the Vimana feature list (cf. Sootra 5) includes such features, and the craft seems to look like a Shakuna Vimana with wings retracted:

The craft is supposed to launch via propeller and wings, and then glide with wings extended, like a bird. However, the wings can be retracted in-flight. The text about the subsystems - yantras talks about various features that offset the apparent simplicity of the craft. The craft is operated by a combination of solar, electric and steam power.

I'm aware that the crafts in the book look like a 1923 Indian engineer's wet dream (the drawings actually are from 1923 with the help from the guy who channeled the book). However, the knowledge present in the book is so profound that it's obvious that there are thousands of years of knowledge from material science (like metallurgy) contained in it (the book claims it's only 1/40th of a general book about machinery which hasn't been found or published yet).

It's not too far fetched that any of the truly old civilizations like those in China, India or Arabia could possess a lot of knowledge that has been forgotten in our modern days and that is rotting away in some archives or libraries containing ancient books.

So it could be that the UFOs are regular flying machines built by some people belonging to some other than the Western culture.

Another sighting from the UFO book mentioned above (p. 68):

Generally, all the cigar-shaped sightings could've been Tripura vimanas or similar. Those are supposed to operate in the air, on land and on water. The propeller and fin in this case are probably for operation in water and on land. How it's supposed to operate in the sky is probably by some kind of antigravity device which has been described as one of the yantras mentioned earlier. The three parts of the craft are supposed to be separable:

All the vimanas are huge -- none is smaller than a house, for instance.

BTW, I don't buy into the theory that the vimanas are using liquid mercury rotary engines. The descriptions of electrical power generators are often weird, and point to ancient knowledge about power generation, but so far I found nothing in the book that would support that theory.

As soon as I find time, I'll elaborate on the power generator and the gravity defying device.

It's completely unknown currently whether any of the vimanas or yantras would work as intended, b/c it'd be a tremendous effort to build them, and no-one seems to have invested the resources into doing so. One university in India is reported as having attempted to make two of the metals (apparently successfully), but so far I found no further information.

One of the bird-like crafts was apparently once built and test flown before 1923 (with the help of the guy who channeled the book). However, it is unclear whether it contained all of the yantras prescribed for the craft. Nor it is known whether it had the huge building and tower that is supposed to be on the top of the craft:

The tower can be hidden from view by one of the yantras that claim to make the craft invisible or partially invisible.

Here's a video that I found on YouTube of some UFO sightings from the past few years, and the first one from China that looks like some kind of weird airplane could've been a vimana:

Another video I found on YouTube that contains some weird craft that could be vimanas:

The following video

contains something that actually looks like a Shakuna Vimana with some of the camouflage systems enabled:

That's why it's so important that attempts are made to build the vimanas -- I hope someday a group of very resourceful people will be able to do this and publicly document it so the viamana technology, if feasible, can be incorporated as contemporary technology.

The following video that I found on YouTube lists various findings related to ancient civilizations:

I also found a documentary from History Channel about vimanas, however they focus too much on a mercury rotary engine craft that isn't described in the publicly available copy of the Vymaanika-Shaastra at all. In the copy I have there are hundreds of descriptions of various technologies but nothing involving a mercury rotary engine.

In the video I posted above there are many examples of various types of vimanas and how they could've been used. There's also a shot of an ancient site that contains hundreds of ovens that could've been used to make some of the many materials needed for the vimanas.

I wish I could find a complete copy of the Vymaanika-Shaastra, perhaps with complete Sanskrit text, even if I can't translate it currently.

I found another video on YouTube, in Italian -- I don't know what they're saying, but at one point they apparently show how one of the acids is reproduced by modern scientists that prove that the liquid is photovoltaic, generating electric current from light:

In the vimanas, there are often custom crystals used for photovoltaic power generation, and there are various types of specialized batteries (called "electricity storage devices").
