Anyone have tips for a forum that's decreasing in activity? I have a few active members, but all the others aren't active anymore. I'm sure you guys have some tips for me. They're greatly appreciated.

Well I got my forum active by inviting friends from other forums. Then I started advertising and very slowly my member count went up. For the first few weeks I only had 3 active members, you have to be patient. Maybe you could try a contest as well to get some old members back. Try sending out a mass email to invite everyone back.

Try advertising the forum by word of mouth. You could try promoting it at any promotion sites and you might want to try installing a new theme or consider switching software. Another thing you might want to do is using project wonderful to get advertisements on other people's sites.

Thanks,

Definately Advertise you forum alot, i dont have a great tip because non of my forums were succesfull but i would say getting good staff members first and then asking them to promote the forum on other fofrums would help loads.

I would advertise a lot and have at least 4 or 5 extremely active posters. That situation would probably generate more signups and maybe even lead to active free members. However, though, it's always a tough ballgame to pay for stuff - and even more so to get people to participate for nothing. Nonetheless, it always amazes me how popular political and general topic forums can get bored people to post constantly for nothing. Note, though, the keyword here is "popular"
