Career path, I mean. Seems like everyone I know is back in school for something. I am going back to work part time pretty quick and am maybe burned out on the accounting thing (plus the $$ value of the average salary for that field is headed down...), so I'm thinking of maybe going back to school.

So anyway, you college students, what are you back in school for?

I am getting my paralegal certificate. One more class after this semester! Although, I am not sure if I will be using it...

Although I haven't started yet, I'm in the process of trying to get all my ducks in a row to start in the spring with a focus on special education law :)

this is definitely a field you will make a difference in - there is such a need for people to advocate for the families to get the services they desperately need and qualify for.

CRNDLSFAN: do you like the paralegal classes? Interesting? How many classes did you need to take to get your certificate? I know you have 1 left but how many before that?

I am going back to college to take my mind off the recent death of my daughter. It helps somewhat, at least I don't have much spare time on my hands.

I am taking Adobe product courses: Photoshop, photography, Premiere Pro, and some Microsoft products.

Returning to school at age 50 was very hard. I am constantly amazed at how much things have really changed over the 20 years I was out of school. I truly believe that if my age group does not grab ahold of the new products that are out there and get some base of knowledge in them that in 2-3 years it will be impossible to catch up. I believe that because technology is moving forward exponentially and there will be a point where it will simply be impossible to be tech savy -- which will create a wide division in those who can communicate tech-wise and those who cannot.

The capabilities of Adobe products are vast and Adobe is upgrading very very fast. I dare say it is probably easier now to learn to fly a 747 then to know Premiere Pro (a moving making software) or even PhotoShop from scratch to expert user.

I cannot stress enough how quickly skills are become obsolete and recommend from the bottom of my heart that women at least take one class a year to stay eligible for the job pool when they have to return....

I'm not going back to school because I'm overeducated as it is.... But I am an accountant. It is strange how varied the salaries are for accountants. It is really frustrating looking for jobs. I'd really like to be closer to home...

OMGosh Kathy--I want to take some photshop classes--any adobe so bad--I dont even need to be certified--I just want to know basics--okay so I KNOW basics but just basics there are so many tutorials out there BUT everyone sets up their work space different and it is so hard for me to follow--I figure if i grasp the details IRL then I can move on to youtube freebies!

I would love to go back to school but DS 18 and 19 are in right now. I am in between over educated and undereducated depending on how you look at it, type of position in the sciences...

Oh and ds's are both in Technical...

***sigh*** theatre.... :surrender:

Are they into the artsy or the technical aspect of performance?

Overall, I have enjoyed most of my classes. I have taken the Intro. class which is an overview of everything, an estate planning class (which I really liked), litigation, 2 legal writing courses, contracts, and bankruptcy. The only classes that I didn't really like are the ones where I thought the teachers sucked. One teacher was new and was not passionate about teaching and the one that I have in contracts right now only teaches us what is in the book.

The program that I am in is 24 credit hours, so 8 classes. You have to have your bachelor's to complete the certificate otherwise you have to get an associates.

How exciting! Where are you looking at going? If you are going to Harper, I can tell you about the program.
