Shoveling

I'm planning to go out now and do a little bit. I like to do it in parts, if at all possible. We have a long driveway... it's really hard to do all at once. I wish it would just melt away before I get out there.

Dear hubby does most of it... I pray he can start the snowblower tonight.

I just got in from doing it for the first time today. i will do it again after I put the kids to bed (**** hubby is of course away on holiday, and of course after buying $700 in GC to Lowes for a snow blower, they didn't have the one he wanted!). I may just go buy one, to hell with him!

Huh? Where is he and why?

I just came in from shoveling.............met another neighbor.........I think we're gonna get along great! :cartwheel:

I did the first layer (several inches) before Dh got home. I hate when he drives over the snow to park in the garage and then packs it down making it hard to clean. Tomorrow we will get out the snowblower and take care of whatever accumulates tonight. On a positive note, two of the neighbor kids were out shoveling their driveways after school. During the past couple of years, I have not noticed any children shoveling their driveways. As a kid, we had to shovel ours and all of the elderly neighbors driveways before we could do anything else for the day. I don;t see parents making their kids get off their duff and shove much anymore.

Just finished the entire block with the snowthrower. This is a wet heavy snow, be careful.
I would try and get as much as you can off the driveways/sidewalks as you can, it's going to get really cold/freezing, and you won't get it off until spring!

funniest thing is, i was heading out to shovel and my boy, your sons age says, "i will help you shovel" never done that before! i don't make them do much of anything because 1-the world is rough and tumble and he will have an entire adulthood to do his own chores and 2- if it isn't voluntary or from the heart, i do not want your help. i was shocked/pleased. he helped me alot. i tried to send him over to the elderly ladies house, but he shied away. tomorrow i will show him how we pleasantly offer kind assistance to those of our neighbors and hope he catches on. when i was a lil girl i swept everyones sidewalks and pulled out all those pesky green weedy things growing in between the cracks and shoveled everyone i could, just for fun. and you are correct, you do not see young folks shoveling/helping as much as they should. maybe it is because of stranger danger drilled into their noggins??

When my kids got old enough to trust them in the house--I would go out and shovel--never had to worry though cause DH is excellent at and likes to shovel--he does an AWESOME JOB_--before we had a house--he would shovel the steps at the apartment building, and anywhere else just to be kind
Our driveway is short and we have lots of cars in it--so very easy to shovel--
However, last night--DH did get the snowblower ready--just in case--so he could go help others--HE has never used the snow blower--once last year--he says he prefers to shovel
My kids now love to get out there and help--so we get out there and shovel little by little--
I figure if it helps me burn 10 calories I am happy
DH comes home from work--and he re does it all--he is so much better than me--I just do basic--he gets it all the way down--etc.

That was pretty much my steps/driveway last year.

We try to keep up, otherwise it is too much for me to help with. Came home tonight and did the walkway, our stairs, the neighbor (recently widowed :pout:) stairs on the other side of our duplex and most of the driveway before mistah got home. Also did the "lawn" shovel across our front yard and the neighbor lady's too. We have mail slots so if we don't clear a path across the lawn they won't deliver.

You better watch out cookiemom will be moving nextdoor to you with this statement

Between linkin's house looking like a Bed and Breakfast and now, the living in Mayberry, yes, I'd LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE to move next door

Dual stage snow thrower here. I said I was never shovelimg after we spent four hours doing it one weekend last year. This bad boy cuts like butter.

We have a nice big snow blower too, but I don't know/ whant to use it...........DH does that. So when it snows during the day I try to keep up with it until he gets home. He just got home a lil bit ago and is outside. ;)

DD11 and I went out there and cleared out the front of the house and most of the driveway. DD is high energy so she needed to burn some energy.....she makes me dizzy sometimes. I needed the exercise so....shoveling for about 45 minutes took care of the that. We have a fancy snowblower that I don't know how to use. DH is at work this evening so he will bust out his toy and clean up the rest tomorrow.

I shoveled the drive. My husband says you should have just got the snowblower out. Wheres the fun in that? The dog doesn't get a shovel full thrown at her so she runs like the wind. First sno, I'm good for it... much more and I will be using the snowblower.

Remember to be careful! bend at the knees and lift, don't over exert yourself! Take a break BEFORE your heart starts pounding out of your chest....

We keep up with it ........... my DH is a fanatic............... we have a riding tractor with a 36 inch blower. Its sooooooooo nice. It gets to be too much work and time consuming if we get too much snow. We have about a 30x65 driveway.........This thing sure saved us last year with all that snow.......... we were still out there for quite awhile even with the tractor and a push blower.......... Cant realy complain too much this year .............. mother nature has been good so far ....... KNOCK ON WOOD.

We don't live in town, so we don't have the public on our sidewalk, we just have a short walk - maybe 15 feet to the driveway. I prefer to do it every couple hours if it is the type of snow that we will be looking at having around for awhile/ having ice issues. If it's gonna be gone within 24 hours or so, I frequently just let nature take care of it.

Driveway gets plowed, I'm happy to hand over the cash for that.
