I have heard a lot of debate on this topic. On one hand, these college athletes are bringing a LOT of money into the program and get nothing in return. On the other hand, they are still just students playing for a school. Bleed Victory thoughts on this debate?

I think they should, I mean they put in so much effort and work so hard to be part of the team for nothing in return. It doesn't have to be a lot be it should definately be a substantial amount, at the very least a small percentage of what the colleges take in from the program.

Nothing in return? They are working for a shot to make it professionally. Look at it as an unpaid internship.

Sure why not, while America struggles with economic prices why not dish out more money as if the players who are good enough to go pro wont be making enough, I do think though college athletes should have free dorm and food as well as their equipment and everything else paid for, and for those who don't go pro maybe give them a check % of the money that they paid to goto the college back to them since they did their best to put on a good showmanship for their school sporting events.

Of course they should. Being an athlete, you are attracting attention, and if you win these games, you attract even more attention from the media, therefore gaining popularity. If a certain player is "good", then they should definitely be paid. So to be fair, everyone should earn a salary.

I agree. If they truly were not getting anything out of it, they wouldnt be doing it. You should not get payed to play sports for a school. You are playing because YOU want to play, not the school. If the school wants YOU to play, they will offer you a scholarship or other incentives. It is well worth it for many athletes to play in college to get a chance at playing professionally.

Yes I think so. Teams such as Ohio State and Florida make millions of dollars per year on the backs of athletes who will never see one cent of it except through scholarships and under the table deals. It's simply just not fair.

They ARE paid. They receive a FREE college education and room and board for as long as they are in college. They get checks for $1500 a month to cover room and board if they don't live in dorms. $1500 a month for living expenses is MORE than enough.

I do not think they should be paid to play. I DO however think they shoudl be allowed to market their name. They should be allowed to do commercials if they want, or earn money from the sale of the jerseys.

I completely agree with this part. They ARE getting paid in that they are receiving a fully paid for education over kids who are struggling with student loans and debt, or students who couldn't afford to go to that college because of the cost. They are admired by the entire campus, and also have opportunities to go pro. I think this is more than enough gratitude for promoting their colleges.

It depends. The problem is that the money shouldn't really be flat. I think that instead of being paid, they should be allowed to sign endorsement deals. Do the women's volleyball players at a random college deserve the same kind of money that say RGIII could command? Probably not.

No matter what you give them, the best players will always be getting more. It will never be fair.

How is that not fair? That is true in every single endeavor in life. I think if you opened up the ability for players to make money irrespective of boosters, they would be better able to see boosters for what they really are, which is mostly scumbags wanting to feel young by sucking up to kids.

They get paid a lot.

Free tuition, scholarships, world-class education, housing, food, everything.

Their lives are great. They have no finances to worry about.

I agree with the "unpaid internship" concept. College athletes shouldn't be paid. They should play for the love of the sport and not just for money.

If not pay them look at this as a sort of work study. Use them playing for the team as a way to pay off their tuition.

I'm not saying they should or they shouldn't but that money would have to come from somewhere and some things may have to be cut if the school shells out too much.

Yea, I think they should get a some kind of monetary bonus along with the scholarships they get. Nothing near what people in professional sports get, but I think they should a little bit more than they do.

I knew someone was going to come up with this and I completely agree.

Definitely they should be paid for it. I was lucky to get paid some amount of money after every match we played. Not every college would do this. It takes so much time, energy to master a sport or play it really well so athletes should be rewarded be it school or college
