Shingles

I don't think I've ever heard so much about people having shingles. My neighbor just got over what her doctor thought was a mild case of it. The woman I work with was just diagnosed with it this week.

I can't for the life of me remember if I had chicken pox. I know I had German measles but that's about it.

You are old like me. We almost ALL had it. You were probably too young to remember (I don't!)

Chickenpox is a WAY more serious disease for adults. If you didn't have it you would want the vaccine!

The only reason I remember having the German measles is because my Mom made a fool out of herself at the doctor's office and told the story for many years. When the doc. told her I had German measles she told him that her brother's wife was German and that we just visited with them. She was thinking maybe that's how I got it. :giggles:

There were no funny chicken pox stories so I have no clue. Nobody left to ask. out: I might go digging through some old papers of my Mom's - but not really hopeful to find anything, except maybe a vaccination record & not really sure that would tell me anything.

You can request a varicella titers test from your doctor to find out if you've had it. My mom kept scrupulous records of my childhood illnesses and there was no sign of the pox, but I have the antibodies. There are asymptomatic cases...

This is one of the reasons I seriously detest parents that feel it isn't necessary to vaccinate their kids.

"Oh just let them get the chicken pox, it won't hurt them".

Yeah, but I didn't have it as a kid and I'm allergic to the vaccine. So your "whatever" attitude may kill me.
