Total rant against the evil segment of society, but that's what this forum is for...
I was having a great day today. I had a decent day at work. After work, I went to take my NT Server in the Enterprise MCSE exam which I passed. I was feeling relieved. I was feeling good. I got home. Sitting on my front doorstep was a FedEx package, which contained something I ordered a while ago which I had been waiting for. It's always nice to come home to find a package addressed to you. Again, I was feeling good.
I passed my exam and got another certification. My girlfriend was on the way to pick up her new car. Everything was fixing itself out to be a pleasant end to an otherwise upbeat day.
It was then that I walked into my house to find that I had been burglarized! My personal safe was broken open with a crowbar, which the burglar(s) left beside the now empty safe. All of the drawers from my dresser and my girlfriend's dresser had been pulled out and emptied onto the bed and bedroom floor.
Of the various things we've found missing so far, much of my girlfriend's jewelry is gone, including the pearl necklace I gave her as a college graduation present. My $700 digital camera is gone. They took all of my "good" baseball cards out of the safe; cards I was planning on using to either sell to go towards my kids education, or to pass on to them. Included in these cards were rookie cards of Mark McGuire, Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, John Smoltz, Ryne Sandberg, Tom Glavine, and Edgar Martinez, among many others.
For crying out loud, they even emptied my spare quarters that I had in a bowl for change. They stole quarters. They didn't take the TVs, DVD player, stereo, or any of the 450 CDs I have, but they took the quarters!!!
I'm just beside myself at the sheer feeling of personal violation that I and my girlfriend are feeling. Yes, everything that was taken was a material possession that can be replaced, and no one was hurt or put in any immediate danger, but more than anything, our feeling of personal security was taken away from us.
Given the opportunity, I'd gladly take my current emotions, vent them through my arms, into my fists, and just totally unload all of my anger, frustration, confusion, and all of the other emotions that are flodding through me right now, and channel that energy right through the bones of the faces of the person or persons who were in my bedroom and dining room earlier today.
I hope they enjoy the fact that what they've done, and likely what they will continue to do, results in the misery of others. Because given the chance, I'd gladly let them know exactly how misery feels.
