Rex Chapman made a racially charged joke via Twitter after the Knicks 104-97 win over the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

"I say JR is such a great pick-up 4 the #Lins only because he's been playing the past 6-mo's in China. So easy now 4 him to recognize his PG.

I guess some of you are going to argue he didn't mean anything by this comment like that ESPN reporter didn't mean anything by his article title? Right? lol Come on people. There is no place for this nonsense in sports or anywhere for that matter. I think people feel like they can get away with nonsense like this because he's Asian and that community as a whole isn't really known to make an uproar as other groups would if these type of statements were made. And if that is the case he's still not right.

I wish folks could focus on the player and his talent rather than these ignorant references to his ethnicity. Tsk, Tsk...

That's terrible and like the ESPN article it's also quite insensitive. It's not cool how people make all these insensitive Asian jokes about Lin and yet because it's only about one player some get a slap on the wrist.

We all know if it was a gay slur or a racial slur about black players then there would be a massive uproar for essentially the same thing. It's wrong any way you look at it and it should be treated as such.

Exactly! I was just arguing this exact point with some of my other friends! I'm black and I know our community would be in an uproar. That also bothers me that other groups that are allegedly against discrimination (for their own groups) but don't step up in situations like this. Shouldn't any civil rights group against hate be jumping all over stuff like this?

Either way this situation is bad for the game and society as a whole.

Completely dislike how social media is criticizing this Asian with derogatory terms and so forth. Can't Jeremy Lin just have his moments of fame without being crucially criticized about his ethnicity and etc?

Honestly, the thing with Lin is that regardless of his race, he would be in the spotlight for his terrific play. The fact that it is unusual for an asian to succeed in the NBA just means he gets even more attention, both positive and negative.

People have a tendency to say things without thinking about them, all Lin can do is keep playing well because the haters will have to shut their mouths.

If I was Asian it would just make me play better. I think some people take racist jokes more serious then the ones they were said to.

Oh wells, I suppose all Lin can say now is F*** the haters? ahahahahah and to his new teammate J.R., they will definitely now be playoff contenders!

I can see why people are so sensitive towards racial issues in sports. I believe that comment was unnecessary and came at an exceptionally bad time. (the ESPN Lin article) Rex Chapman is one of my favorite players ever and I think he should apologize for this statement.

Exactly, I doubt Lin really cares about that or the "chink in the armor" comment, but it's the small percentage of the large Chinese population who get offended by it and you have to take action to appease that crowd.

I honestly do not understand why people are so sensitive these days. The man was joking, so laugh and enjoy it. A good amount of comedy will be about sex, race, etc. Take it for what it is.

I don't understand what he was thinking saying that. He has to know how the comment would be perceived and it surely would get a negative reaction.

I 100% agree with this. I cannot believe the media and their bashing of the Asian community. Its absolutely despicable.

All of these Asian stereotypes/racial comments or whatever you want to call it is beginning to irritate the hell out of me. Who cares if Lin is Asian?! I certainly don't. The fact that a lot of attention that Lin is getting is somewhat negative is quite depressing and makes me feel bad for Lin.

I hope this race issue disappears for Lin (both positive and negative). It isn't fair to Lin, all he wants to do is play ball, somehow he became a representative to an entire race. He has hundreds of millions of people watching his every move. LEAVE LIN ALONE!!!

Yeah, he's handled this whole situation with a ton of class and humility. He couldn't be doing a better job. It's incredibly life changing going from people thinking you're like the team trainer or something to the most talked about athlete in sports.

I generally shrug racism off. I have to say though, that Chapman's attempt at humor wasn't even all that good. If you're trying to insult somebody, at least make it somewhat clever. What a half-assed attempt.

I'm sure any of you that follow [even if you don't ] the NBA know something about this Jeremy Lin from the New York Knicks. In which case, you've heard the term "Linsanity" or "Linning!"

Make up a new name* of phrase using Lin, that's the game.

What it shame it is for adults to still be talking that way. Similar to what I have said about the ESPN racial slur, adults shouldn't be talking that way because its disrespectful.
