Need an opinion on a webpage design

Assuming the login sidebar disappears once the person's entered their details, I'd go with it being right-aligned. If it doesn't disappear, then that should probably change, but I'd still go with the right side. People read left to right and having such a large sidebar's a bit jarring unless it has some important information in it.

I agree with Alan. Also, I think the login are should be narrower both in terms of height and width; to me it looks like you *could* place the login buttons below the Home navbar and then have the main body of text going across the full width of the page.

I was going to post something, but scrapped it Kirk pretty much said what I was going to say however most website's now a days have there login buttons narrow and in the top right hand corner so whether your able to do that I don't know?

I suppose I should clarify- the main focus of the website is a fullscreen chatroom that you have to login to access. This webpage is only the front-end part to deliver news, rules, etc. The login has to be the most important, conspicuous part on the page, prime retail space, and shouldn't be very small. We are still working on proportions, though. :P This isn't nearly done; I just need to know which sidebar orientation looks better.

I think both ways are well done. As someone who has reviewed websites in the past, I can tell you that I think you did a good job here, either way. You are very clear about what the website is about, also its very obvious where someone would go to sign up or to log in. These are key components when creating a website of any kind. When someone reaches the landing page, they want to know what its about, they want to know how they sign up. In other words they want it to be simple, but to still give its reason. Your landing page, no matter which one you go with, has covered this quite well.
