Ok, I know alot of you will laugh at me, but I need some advise. I used to go to a beautician who dyed my eyebrows, I'm a blonde and my eyebrows are barely visable, she didn't charge much, but it didn't last long either. Soooo I thought I could dye them at home, with a little research I felt comfortable trying it, the neighbor helped to make sure I didn't get any in my eye. I used regular Revlon hair dye and nothing, didn't get any darker at all, so I applied again and left in on longer, still nothing.

I have a wedding coming up in 4 1/2 weeks and really want some eyebrows that can be seen, and don't want to have them dyed by my former beautician, it's just not worth the $20-25 and it only lasted 2 weeks, so if I can figure out how to do it at home I can afford to do it every 2 weeks all year long.

I would suggest just using an eyebrow pencil. The reason it only lasts 2 weeks is because your body sheds the eyebrow hairs in that period of time, so all the dyed hairs are being shed.

Also eyebrow hair is tougher than head hair and needs more aggressive dye. If you must dye, use the Just for Men products, they are designed to penetrate tougher hair like beards, etc.

Also, if you dye, when doing your face care routine, keep products off your eyebrows. Soaps will naturally strip dye, and creams will do the same thing over time.

On "What Not To Wear" Carmindy uses an eyebrow corrector on her makeovers...it's a powder applied with an angle brush...

I've tried using eyebrow pencils, it just looks aweful on me, I've tried many, many different colors and brands. I never thought of the just for men stuff, thanks for the idea! Can I use that again once it's open and activated, I would like to be able to get several applications out of one bottle if possible.

I agree 100 percent with Kathy.

Practice a lot with a pencil, don't stand too close to the mirror. Use small, light strokes as if you're drawing on individual hairs. Get a pencil that's a shade darker than your hair.

I'd be happy to help for free if you can come out here :)

I've been using this and I like it. There's color on one end and a gel brush on the other to seal the color.

The Just for Men moustache/beard kit works for multiple applications. Random comments on the 'net guys say they get 5-6 applications out of a box, so you would get more if you're just doing your brows. ALWAYS HAVE A FRIEND WITH YOU IF YOU GET IT IN YOUR EYES IT WILL CAUSE TERRIBLE DAMAGE.

However, I totally agree with Red, if you learn to apply the makeup correctly you will LOVE it, it looks very natural and with practice takes only a couple of minutes.

Sephora also has an eyebrow mascara, but that would take some practice, too.

Wow, thanks Red! :cartwheel: As soon as we know there will be no more snow I'll get in touch with you and take you up on that offer. I'm so tired of looking like a snowman, no eyebrows....lol

And I have tried powder and an angle brush, no luck with that either, it just looks to fake to me. Maybe I'm being too picky, but I did really like the dyed look and I didn't have to do it every day and worry is one darker than the other, kwim?

Just consider that whatever you use (dye) you will have to reapply every 7-10 days to keep your look. There is just no way to avoid that, the hairs fall out.

Thanks Joan and Kathy, the smashbox eyebrow looks like it might work well, I may just go out and invest in that one! And yes I wouls always have someone around if I'm going to dye them just in case, it was scary but it didn't drip at all.

If I can achieve a natural look with makeup that would be a much safer alternative, you would think at my age I would have had this figured out by now!

That is part of the reason why your pro dye only lasts well for 2 weeks. Well, the shedding is on a rotation, you have all different "ages" of hairs everywhere on your body.

So after 3-4 dyes you may be able to cut back the time between dye jobs, as you would have a rotation of "younger" dyed hairs after that time.

I also use a powder and brush every day to put on my eyebrows! Works great and I have never used hair dye on them! I use Clinique brand, maybe you should visit a cosmetics counter. They will help you with this and sell you the right color!

Have you considered getting permanent make-up done? I had my eyebrows "tatooed" a few months ago and not only will the permanent make-up provide definition and shape to your eyebrows, it lasts for (on average) 5-10 years. I also had permanent eyeliner done (only on the top lid) and I love it. Now, I can walk out of the house with minimal or no make-up application.
