Grayslake resident Joseph "Joey" Charles Frase, 20, has been missing since leaving a party in Madrona Village on foot in the area of Route 60 and Chardon Road in Round Lake Saturday night.
According to an e-mail sent to Patch from a friend of the missing young man, Frase called friends shortly after leaving a party on Saturday night, asking if they could pick him up. Frase told friends he was lost and cold.
Frase's friends said they drove around looking for him after he called, but did not find him. Frase reportedly made one cell phone call to a girl that his friends do not know, at about 3 a.m. His phone has not been turned on since, said friends.
Frase, who is employed at Anthony Buick & GMC in Gurnee, did not show up for work nor did he retrieved his vehicle, friends reported.
Police said Frase was last seen at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 on foot in a residential area near Townline Road. and Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake.
Grayslake Police issued the following statement to Patch:
We are working hard on the case. With the assistance of Round Lake PD we have checked the area Joseph was last seen, including several surrounding neighborhoods, bike paths, walking paths and fields. In addition, Air One assisted us with a search from their helicopter, all with negative results. Our detectives are speaking with several of Joseph’s friends, family and contacts reference this case.
Joey is a 20-year old caucasian male, approximately 5’11," 140 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Joey was last seen wearing a black colored t-shirt with "ASAP Rocky" written on the front, over a gray or white colored hoodie, and blue jeans.
Anyone with any information should contact Grayslake Police at (847) 223-2341.

ETA: This is not *my* cousin

I hope he is found safe, guessing another broken home (not original mom and dad or bad ones) :( Otherwise/still as a kid no mention of calling parents so ****ed up :(. You would think his parents would be paying everything for him in college at that age at least, as is expected :( Sounds like a really bad home situation if he had to work. Poor guy hopefully he's ok.

Said a prayer for him and his family.

Jan. 19 is the anniversary of Bard Olsen missing from Dekalb. Been 6 years :(

Brad went missing a few miles from my house, I've known his family my whole life.

Every time we drive past the billboard about him, we talk about how sad it is and his poor family.

I am praying they find him safe and sound. Keep the negative comments to yourself its really rude. A young man is missing and that is all that matters

This is such a striking lesson for our teenagers - if a friend calls like this, is lost and cold and you can't find him, CALL THE POLICE! Or at least call mom & dad, so they can take appropriate actions. If someone had called the police, it may have saved this young man's life.

Any potential embarrassment from that far outweighs the tragedy of the alternative.

That's so sad...

There is a lesson in this. Kids under (and over) age will drink, or their friends (rides) will drink. And they will likely do it to excess at least once. As parents we MUST impress upon them that they CAN and SHOULD call US no matter what they have done. And we must have the discipline not to lose our religion on them (in the moment) so that they are not "afraid" to call us when they need us.

Do we want them to do these things? NO, are we encouraging it by letting them know we WILL come for them no matter what? NO. We are doing our JOBS as parents.

When DS and friends used to go out I was always the parent who nagged about who/how/where they were going. One night a friend got a bit mouthy about me being in their business.

I put the 4 boys (then middle school kids) in my car and drove them to last place Brad was seen and explained that he was never seen or heard from again. Not so much as a shoeprint was ever found. That I was going to stay in their business and they had better get used to it!

Just a few weeks ago one of DS old friends called our house when he found himself in an uncomfortable situation...didn't call his parents but called us. He just needed a safe ride home.

Tell your kids you will love them no matter what. Tell them that they have to look out for each other. The world is a crazy place and we MUST be a safe place for them.

Grayslake man who disappeared died of hypothermia: coroner

A 20-year-old Grayslake man found dead Tuesday after a search by family and friends died of hypothermia, said Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd.

Volunteers discovered Joey Frase in a field close to Campbell Airport near Grayslake after he was last seen leaving a Round Lake party approximately 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

An autopsy performed Wednesday found some alcohol in his system, according to the coroner, with a blood alcohol level of .09, just above the legal driving limit of .08.

“What we found indicates nothing other than exposure (to cold) and borderline intoxication,” Rudd said.

Rudd said it’s likely Frase got lost, because Campbell Airport is infrequently used and shuts down its lights when no planes are approaching or departing.

“It had to be extremely dark,” Rudd said.

Brett Frase, Joey Frase’s father, said his son was an infectiously upbeat person with a love of fishing and the outdoors in general.

“He was a great kid,” Brett Frase said. “He was always a happy kid, always smiling.”
