I was at my favorite bar last night, just enjoying a drink and playing some darts with friends. It was all just a real nice time. Until this fat, balding, bible-thumping, nosey son of a **** decided to start an argument with the bartender over her sexuality. She hadn't said an argumentative word to him the entire night, just served him his drinks with a smile like she does with every other customer there. She's a really nice girl and an excellent bartender. But this guy happened to notice that she had excessive piercings in one ear and dressed in baggy, masculine clothing. So he thought it appropriate to call her immoral and tell her that she wasn't really gay and that she was only pretending. Instead of arguing with a customer, she just politely told him "Well, that's your opinion." and walked away to serve someone else.

That wasn't enough to satisfy this jackass. No, he's of a more persistent breed of jackass. The kind that then has to point out another lesbian at the bar and do the same thing. Only this girl, since she wasn't bartending, gave him **** right back. Out of nowhere, he felt it necessary to tell her that she was really bisexual and that she should stop pretending to be gay. Now let me put this in perspective. How would any straight person react to a gay man who you don't know telling you "Honey, you cross your legs way too tight to be straight. Come outa that closet already."? So, I thought it entirely appropriate when this girl told him to go hump a bible and leave her alone.

Still, the jackass in this man was unsatiated. He approached the other bartender who was off duty and told him "You must be gay if you work here too." He hadn't said a word to this jackass to provoke this kind of behavior. Rather than starting an argument over it, he just stated that it was none of this rude ****'s business. I swear, the man grew hooves at this point. Instead of becoming aware of his own rude display, he started quoting scripture and berated the owner of the bar for hiring ****. All three people who he had needlessly insulted were now getting ready for a fight. The owner had to jump between them and have the man's wife drag him out of the bar to prevent it from coming to blows.

This whole incident could have been avoided had the jackass realized that other peoples' sexuality are none of his **** business. Order your drink, hang out with your wife, friends, or whatever, and MIND YOUR OWN ****ING BUSINESS!
 
He is entitled to his opinion, but, well, no one asked him his opinion. There are people like this from all walks of life, always butting into other people's business. No one asked him, he should have kept his opinions to himself! BASH HIM!
 
Sounds like this idiot isn't happy in and with hs OWN life, so he has to go out and try to ruin everyone else's. The owner of the bar waited much too long to get rid of the guy - I'd have bounced his **** the second he started giving the bartender a hard time.
 
Its sad that people like that can call themselves Christian. What would Jesus Do is a great thing to apply here. I have no personal problem with anyone who is gay, my sister is. I do not agree with her choice. But like it says in the good book, "hate the sin not the sinner" You don't win anyone over by pointing fingers and telling them their going to hell. You tell them that there are options and the Jesus loves them. They have the right to choose to lead their life the way they want, the have to choice to not accept God. The idea that trying to force Christianity on people could possibly work is insane. Charlalaine taught us that. It doesn't work. Also, you really don't have to tell a homosexual that you don't agree with them. If you say "Hey I'm a Christian" they would probably know!!!! It says infinitely more to someone to tell them who you are what you believe and then say just treat them like any other person! THEY WILL RESPECT YOU! A person is much more inclined to ask you about your faith if you present it in a positive and encouraging way. Yeah your gay, you know what, Jesus still loves you! Jesus loves murderers and rapists and absolutely EVERYONE ELSE! No exceptions! UNCONDITIONAL! You have to choose to accept and return that love by walking in His ways and spreading that good news to your fellow man.To often we Christians are given the stigma of forcing our faith down your throughts, I'm here to tell you that anyone who does that is entirely and completely going against the will of God.
 
You said it much more eloquently than I would have, but well done. It's not that there's something wrong with the principles of religion, it's that sometimes people who are religious are assholes. There are plenty of atheist assholes too. They try to shove their beliefs down your throat because they're so convinced they're right that they find it incredibly audacious and offensive that someone contradicts their beliefs. I don't care if you believe there's a little alien inside your head controlling you like a corny MIB robot. Doesn't effect me in the least. Believe what you want. But the next time I have a bible shoved in my face in a vile attempt to convert me to a religion I don't believe in, I'm gonna put that bible someplace unpleasant (I'm just using that as an example because it's happened to me before).
 
How RUDE. Some people just don't know when to shut their mouths. If this guy was such a good Christian what was he doing an a bar anyways???????????? My mother used to tell me if Jesus lives in your heart you should never go anywhere that Jesus wouldn't want to be.
 
He shouldnt have been there in the first place. I agree people are too opinionated and they DO need to mind their own business. No one asked him to say that so he should have kept it to himself...jeez some people just dont get it...lol :)
 
A better way for any christian to convert someone (especially one who doesnt want a bible in the face) Is to lead by example. Be kind and live as Jesus did, more people will be intrested in how well you cope with life and how good a person you are than they will be if you just tell them they are going to hell. If that guy went into that bar persay ordered a lemonade and offered his services as a designated driver to anyone who needed it he would have made much more of an impact.
 
True...that sounds like a nice way to go about things...but then again how are we going to get loud mouth people like him to stop?? take away freewill? *sigh*
 
I know its bad to think this way. Laugh at the jackass who bible thumps all day long and take solice in the fact that if he keeps that up the hell he keeps telling you about is right were he is headed! Wow, that was entirely not in the image of Godlyness but he deserves it.

Experiments have shown that homosexuality is not an active choice, but rather the result of a PHYSICAL DIFFERENCE in brain anatomy. Scientists have even been able to induce homosexuality in mice by manipulating the hormones present in the womb during a certain critical period of development. Overall, it seems, the brains of homosexual men resemble those of heterosexual women and the brains of homosexual women resemble those of heterosexual men. Homosexuality also affects attributes that are not sex related (or even part of the "gay" stereotype). For instance homosexual/heterosexual differences have been observed in: spatial abilities, fingerprint ridge counts, auditory system, handedness, relative finger lengths, age of male puberty, male body size. However homosexuality does not seem to be a all-or-none trait. There is a whole range of sexual orientations ranging from completely heterosexual, to completely homosexual, with bisexuality being the result of a 50-50 split. Thus, people who "change" their sexual orientation, are most likely those who are closer to the middle of the range, and feel both heterosexual and homosexual impulses. I would also like to add one closing note: while census data reveals that about 2.5 percent of people are actively homosexual, "One study (Ludwig, 1995) of the biographies of 1004 eminent people found homosexual and bisexual people overrepresented (11 percent of the sample)." (Exploring Psychology, Sixth Edition, David G. Myers).
 
??? Why was that in response to my post? I didnt say anything about the origins of homosexuality. I was talking about Christians who dont know how to really be Christian. I dont understand what that had to do with your post. And don't tell my sister she was born gay, she will tell you that until she made a concious desition she was totaly strait.I think she would be offended if somone told her that.
 
First off, I apologize for assuming that you had assumed that your sister had chosen homosexuality. Most people I see, both in the news and online (including the individual about whom this thread was started), who voice that opinion merely assume that all homosexuals choose homosexuality, despite the fact that most homosexuals assert that it is "the way they are," and scientific evidence backs their claim. I also see that you were reffering exclusively to your sister's case. I thought you were using her case as an example. What I was arguing against was the classification of homosexuality as a sin, on the basis that most are unable to change their sexual orientation. However, if your sister did, in fact, make the choice of her own free will, that is a possibility (depending on one's moral code). I merely view it as odd and maladaptive, but relatively harmless. (I also intended to trim the quote down to match. I knew I was forgetting something.)

Smo, this topic has been discussed several times, and quite simply put, there is no absolute evidence that people are born gay, and there is no absolute proof they are aren't. There just isn't. The "evidence" that you suggest is theory at this point.
 
I do not believe that people are born gay. I believe that circumstances, experiences, and life altering events in their lives put them on the path to choosing homosexuality. Just like any other behavior that falls outside the normal human behavior. Saying people are "born gay" is an over simplification of the human behavior pattern. It is an attempt for a particular group to have the rest of society validate their behavior by saying that they have no choice but to engage in said behavior.

If people are born gay, are people born pedophiles? Are people born zoopheliacs? Are people born necrophiliacs? And please don't say it is not fair to make this comparison. All of these behaviors share a commonality: they are outside the normal sexual pattern for human beings. Whether they are illegal, hurt others, non-consensual, or whatever else you care to scream at me for comparing them, the fact remains they are all deviant sexual behaviors that no one would "choose" to engage in, and therefore if you say someone is born homosexual, I challenge you to explain to me how you are not born any of aforementioned behavioral types. Can a pedophile help it that when he sees a young boy, he gets an erection? Can a zoopheliac help it that he gets an erection when he thinks about an animal? I think you get the point. People are homosexual for the same reasons they are pedophiles: something in thier life, some event or series of events, caused them to be that way.

I am not homophobic, in fact, I am quite secure in my heterosexuality. I laugh at people who are so insecure in their sexuality that they think a member of the same sex can someone trick them into becoming homosexual. I could not care any less what consensual adults do in their own bedrooms, but, I won't be hoodwinked into believing that they have no control over their actions. At best, I will concede homosexuals may be victims. They may have had no control over the events that put them on the path to homosexuality. I will give them that. But they are not born gay.
 
Smo's right on this. People aren't able to choose their sexuality. There is much more evidence supporting this point of view that there is the "choice" point of view. Sexuality has much to do with hormone levels, which are influenced greatly by genetics. This argument has been discussed in the other forum on gay marriage, but there weren't any actual studies presented for the "choice" side. There are many physiological differences between homo and heterosexual individuals that support the claim that people are born and are influenced in early childhood to determine their sexuality. Things ranging from finger length to neurophysiologoly. Physiology isn't something that's altered by a conscious decision so rapidly, it's influenced by both nature and nurture. Being homosexual is no more of a decision than being heterosexual is.
 
I still dont agree. You see I know homosexual people who say that they made a concious choice to be gay. I also know one gay guy who made a desicion to be strait. They did not have any pysiological response tellling them to be gay or strait. They started out thier lives one way and chose to become another. My sister didnt become a lesbian till she was about 35. Until that time she liked guys plenty. A realy bad track record with picking up some real bad guys turned her off men. You should meet the father of her child he could turn ANYONE off men! As far as providing evidence that it is a choice to be gay. The only thing you could really do is run a extremely massive study on the entire family interaction and social circumstaces on a MASSIVE number of homosexual people. And not many people have to resouces required for such and undertaking. And also I wanna see an answer to Angrys post. I wanna see somone respond to why a pedofile isnt born that way. And if he is, why is it not accepted to be a pedofile? What if a brother and sister are atracted to each other. Were they born incestuouse? You cant be born with any sort of predisposition. Those always come from evironment. You can be born with physical predispositions such as manual dextarity and a good metabolism but you cant be born gay. The absolute best evidence for this is cooties. When your realy young like 4-5 you have absolutly NO atraction to tthe opposite sex. YOU DONT FREAKING CARE. Girls are wierd and little boys are ugly and you dont generally want anything to do with eachother. There is no sexuality whatsoever! You dont understand attraction you would rather just stack your blocks. There have been studies done on a small scale were homosexuals were psychologically examined and they did share alot of similar social cicumstances. Alot of them came from single parent homes, usually rasied by the mother. Alot of them were only childs and most of them came from families who were veary closed and guarded about sex. Momy and or daddy tried to avoid the subject and the kid just kind of figured it out on his own. I wish somone would do a bigger study and shed alot more light on this subject.

There is no simple answer to the question, 'Are some people born lesbian or gay?' There are some theories which stress biological differences between heterosexual and homosexual adults, suggesting that people are born with their sexuality already determined.

In 1993 the American researcher Dean Hamer published research that seemed to prove that homosexual orientation could be genetically transmitted to men on the x chromosome, which they get from their mothers. However when this study was duplicated it did not produce the same results. A follow-up study which Hamer collaborated on also failed to reinforce his earlier results. Most recently research published in April 1999 by George Rice and George Ebers of the Universty of Western Ontario has cast doubt on Hamer's theory. Rice and Ebers' research also tested the same region of the x chromosome in a larger sample of gay men, but failed to find the same 'marker' that Hamer's research had produced. Claims that the part of the brain known as the hypothalamus is influential in determining sexual orientation, have yet to be substantiated. At the moment it is generally thought that biological explanations of sexuality are insufficient to explain the diversity of human sexuality.

Psycho-social explanations offer a variety of factors that could contribute to the development of a person's homosexuality. For example, a female dominated upbringing in a gay man's past, with an absence of a male role model. Others stress adherence or deviance from conformity to gender roles, and individual psychological makeup. While none of these factors alone completely answers the question 'what causes homosexuality?', they rule out some things. For example, lesbian and gay young people are not 'failed' heterosexuals. Also, homosexual partners are generally of the same age proving wrong the assumptions that young people are 'turned gay' by older people.

What is clear is that people's behaviour is influenced by their family environment, their experiences and their sense of themselves. Beliefs about sex are initially shaped by family values. Later on these beliefs may be shaped by pleasant and unpleasant experiences of sex and also shape their choice of activities and partners. Throughout their life a person's sense of who and what they are has a strong impact on their sexual development and experience.
