Milk better than sports drinks

I stopped drinking milk because of all the hormones and chemicals they pump into it. I was younger and didn't realize that milk was in fact causing all my acne. I broke out all the time during my teen years, and milk was a huge factor as to why. I've stopped drinking it, and it's gotten much better.

I had spots too and I drank a lot of milk.

But when I stopped worrying about my spots they actually went (I got my first GF and I stopped caring). I still drink lots of milk so I don't buy it.

Milk is bad? Come on people.

Who get's to decide which part of the cow we consume? You think it's ok to eat cow's muscles but not to drink milk that lay the foundation of those muscles?

It is known as milk acne, I used to drink a lot of milk a few years ago, and I had acne across the top of my back. Since abstaining from milk, the spots have disappeared, no coincidence.

The main difference is that we have been eating animals throughout the 2.5 million years of our evolution, meat is our natural food. Animals became domesticated recently in our evolution, we have been consuming animal milk for approximately 1% of our evolution. This is why the majority of humanity is lactose intolerant.

The best post-workout drink is a whey protein shake. Whey protein is cheaper than milk, a 30g portion of whey protein costs less than 20p.

No scientific research to back you up...1 person says it is a myth and another says they got rid of acne from not drinking milk. Teenagers grow out of things; my sister had acne until she was 21.

There is science to back it up. Hormones in milk signal the skin cells to produce more sebum. Basically, the hormones naturally found in teenagers are in milk too. Look up milk acne for a more detailed explanation.

"Milk protein is roughly 20% whey and 80% casein. Thus far in the scientific literature, comparisons of casein-dominant proteins with whey for sports applications are evenly split. Some studies show casein as superior (in spite of a higher leucine content in the whey treatments) [9,10], while others point to whey as the victor [11,12]. The only certainty is that it can’t be assumed that faster is better when it comes to promoting net anabolism. An acute study on post-ingestion amino acid kinetics by LaCroix suggests that milk protein is best left as-is rather than isolating its protein fractions [13]. Compared to total milk protein, whey’s amino acid delivery was too transient, and underwent rapid deamination during the postprandial period. The authors concluded that milk proteins had the best nutritional quality, which suggested a synergistic effect between its casein and whey"

Don't make things up! Majority is lactose intolerant!?!? You are suggesting over 50% of the population have lactose intolerance. I know 1 person out of my friends, family, work colleagues that is lactose intolerant, and she is a hypochondriac.

And a fair proportion of people develop lactose intolerance when they get older, which suggests it has absolutely 0% nothing to do with evolution. If it did they would be present from child birth.

In my opinion lactose intolerance is not due to the milk, it is due the chemicals they put in during pasteurization processes, or cows eating over fertilized grass.

Personally I believe a lot of these problems are mind problems, the mind controls the body. If you control the mind you control the body. (don't you dare get ill - got a big date- so not ill until after the date as you are not fighting it anymore)

Agreed man

I like these arguments. When I taught full time (and this happens with most teachers), we get worn down and feel ill and crappy but you carry on and don't get ill.

As soon as half term arrives a lot will get ill.

Also I should react funny to pork, it runs completely in my dads side in the family. When I found out about it, the next time I ate Pork I was ill. I realized then even as a kid it was that information that did it for me not the actual condition.

I eat pork chops at least once a week, occasionally I feel a bit funny if I think about it.

I did look it up; and every 1 person that said milk acne exists I found 4 others that said it was a bunch of b.s. and it was due to your body growing out of it, among other things.

I'd still drink sports drinks just because its more refreshing after a workout. I still drink tons of milk during the day though, it is amazing with food

This is not surprising, milk is one of the best nutritional drinks out there. It is rich in calcium, protein and vitamin C. The only negative thing about wholesome milk is that contains plenty of fat. Sports drinks, on the other hand, are rich in sugars which is not good for our bodies.

Wow, I didn’t know that! All my life, it’s been Gatorade, Gatorade, Gatorade for sports. Same with my Husband.

I’m glad to learn this, however, because we LOVE the moo in this house. Even when not active, we both have two or three glasses daily.

Husband says that if he had to choose to live without beer or milk, he would give up the beer.

Milk is definitely helping my recovery from football matches, I barely get any muscle aches now and feel slightly more alert.

Love this thread , so keep drinking milk guys!

When I was younger, I used to drink milk after playing outside with friends for the whole day. Now, I just stick with water, even after exercising.

I'm not making anything up. You and your connections are not representative of the whole world. 75% of the world's population is lactose intolerant to some degree.

It is absolutely linked to evolution, hence why lactose intolerance is most common in Asia, where there is generally no milk farming tradition, and rare in countries like Ireland, a milk farming country. 90%-100% in some Asian and African countries are lactose intolerant, compared with only 5% in some Northern European countries.
