I'm surprised at you ennui..................while I would agree with this in general, if he did indeed lie because he wouldn't be accepted for being gay then don't you kinda feel for him?

I'm torn.

It is because of his family's & school's religious beliefs and the culture that derives from those beliefs that may have made him feel that he couldn't come out. But it is 2013, time to give those who hate and refuse to accept a child's, sibling's, relative's, friend's, or classmate's sexual preference swift kicks into this century.

He is an adult & lying, especially with this grand a scheme is not acceptable.

If a popular big time jock can't be accepted on his campus simply for being gay, then there is something seriously wrong on that campus, and it needs to change.

One part of the story was that the girlfriend died the same day as his grandmother. The girlfriend supposedly went to Hawaii to meet up with him, but his family never met her. There were stories where he confirmed this.

Basically he fed into the lies most likely for the attention and it was all made up. ND has issued a statement that he didn't know about it and was a victim of the hoax, but there are instances where he confirmed the "relationship".

I think some of the members of the media are at fault for this (factchecking would have helped) and they hype of the good player, good team, emotional story.

He admitted to ND that this was a hoax in early December, yet continued to talk about his dead gf to the press for a few weeks afterward.

He is a big FAT F'ing liar.



Other than no children were involved [thank G-d], this isn't that different a scandal than the twisted way out of whack screwed sense of priorities & football worship that existed/exists at Penn State with Paterno. ND needs to be open & quick to expose and rid itself of this insane devotion to sport & athletes, letting them get away with breaking school & society honor codes without penalty.

If Te'o were a chem major, up for a major prize, and pulled this crap, you know the school would have tossed his butt already.

Ennui are you just one of those old crabby ****es that can't find anyone **** them and has nothing better to do than post your ****ed up opinion on a topic like this? What occurred at Penn state is not even CLOSE to what went on here.......

My money is on that he is gay and was trying to cover it up...he may or may not have been involved but I can see how the lie could just keep growing if it was covering up his preferences. I am shocked how the reporters dropped the ball in fact checking too...I imagine they feel pretty stupid right now too. I wish that it would just go away...between this and Lance Armstrong...at least I'm getting some interesting lessons to talk to my boys about.

I do not see why you or anyone are up in arms, its not like he knocked some woman up or from what I read even did anything illegal right? For whatever reason was it stupid, but in the scheme of things whats the big deal?

I am also shocked ennui is so judgmental here, and the comparison to Penn State is just idiotic. Something like this should be right up your alley, E, maybe wanna get your Automatic-Opinion-O-Meter recalibrated.

This is one guy. Didn't hurt anyone. Maybe was hurt himself? Doesn't anyone remember George Glass?
