Just heard on the radio that Manny signed with Oakland.. and odd pickup IMO, but they got him for cheap so I guess they don't have much to lose by signing him..

Yea he is going to Oakland. They probably hope he has a great first half then trade him for some prospects.

I am not a Manny fan at all. Everywhere he goes he is nothing but trouble and is getting old quickly. I guess when you are in the position Oakland is in and can get an aging star cheap you may as well take the chance.

That makes no sense because he will be suspended till June due to failing a drug test for steriods.

They signed a name. He will do nothing for them and may even create more of a bad atmosphere. He's nothing but trouble that doesn't put his talent to work for his TEAM. bad decision. Good luck to them, but I don't see this character helping them out at all. His time in MLB should be done.

That's a strange choice. I know the A's need all the attention they can get but they need to compete. The Rangers will not go away and the Angels acquisition of Albert Pujols means every team in that division needs to be on notice. It's not really a good move for them to acquire a guy who has to serve a massive suspension before he can play AND has a reputation for being a cancer to a clubhouse.

Being an A's fan I was not looking forward to this signing. But I've changed my opinion over the weeks. They're signing him to a 0 risk deal. If he doesn't perform in spring training they can just cut him. Not to mention they won't be paying him during the 50 game suspension.

This.

The contract is very minimal and they really are at no risk here. At best they get one of the best right handed hitters to ever play the game playing at a still very competitive level. At worst they wasted half a million and no harm done.

Actually, I heard because this is his second violation, he'll have to serve a 100-game suspension. If true, it would take him out of the equation until when teams start making playoff runs. If Cespedes isn't enough to get Oakland out of the cellar, they'll be too far behind for Manny's bat to matter any.

Still, it could be a good investment for 2013, assuming his 62-game season is worth it.

It is his second violation, but they reduced it to only 50 games for some reason..

Manny is an egotistical clown who should be permanently banned from this league. He has been caught cheating twice in a row and needs to give up the gig.

Manny is a jackass. He gets busted for roids so he retires and now he comes back thinking his **** don't stink? The A's did not make the right call here...a minimal contract will still have some incentives to bolster it and it is still money they have to pay him day-in, day-out.

Manny has proven to be a cancer in the locker room and he will have about 2/3 of a season at best to show his worth...he won't. He'll collect the paycheck and talk smack about the system, the clubhouse, the fans, blah blah blah. I hope he gets busted again and the A's can void his contract.

Good for the A's. This will give them something to talk about. The last couple teams he has been on has been dissapointing. The White Sox, Dodgers, and Rays. He is still a top five hitter all time in my book. The guy can just flat out hit a baseball.
