Live Messenger closing

Just because some people abuse a service isn't enough to get rid of it.

Also, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed it's closing, it used to be really popular a few years ago and I think a lot of people are going to miss it.

I find a bit sad that the legendary Live Messenger (also known as MSN Messenger) is closing down in 2013. Before Facebook, me and my friends used to spend hours on Messenger chatting away. Honestly, I didn't believe this day would come so soon - the end of the Messenger. I've never really liked Skype. :(

Code:
Microsoft has announced it intends to "retire" its instant message chat tool and replace it with Skype's messaging tool.
- BBC

If you didn't like Skype before, you surely won't like it now that MSN is going to provide it, LOL.

I used to be a hardcore MSN user, the chat room services over the years, bot running, was a sysop once even, all the IMs and so on... every last one of those services has always had issues... now I hear they are getting more into the hardware industry, God rest our souls... the technology rapture is upon us!

That might be true, but trolling happens everywhere. My point was people who "get hacked" generally have weak passwords, fall victim to phishing, have weak security questions etc etc.
No. It happens to people who get bullied by trolls and other pricks who just don't like that person due to jealousy.
I have had this happen to me a lot of times. So I just don't use hotmail anymore.

I have literally no idea what point you're trying to make.

You originally said that msn accounts get hacked a lot, which I argue is down to the users and not the service. Now you just keep going back to "trolling", which I agree is bad, but it isn't exclusive to msn.

I rarely have seen anyone get hacked over the past few years that practice good internet security. Were your passwords easy? Were they hard? Answer that, and if you use weird security answers nobody will be able to hack you unless you give them the information.

My old MSN was hacked years ago but that's because it was tied into a site that I worked for and I didn't have access to the email account anymore. So, that was my loss.

People who have been abused by other people as in hacked, picked on and whatever else done to them have reported it as a major problem to microsoft's abuse people causing it's chat program to be closed.

When I said that when people get hacked "it's usually their fault", I'm not saying they deserved it. I'm saying if they had secured their account better it would have never happened. (PS. I've had a Hotmail account for 10+ years, whilst I rarely use it, it's never been compromised).

Also, when did they ever say they're closing because of abuse? They bought Skype a few years ago, it makes perfect sense to phase one out.

Anyway, I'm out, this is going nowhere.

First AIM decides to stop its development and then MSN Messenger decided to close, what next? I have used both Yahoo and MSN Messengers and there was a time when MSN was my favorite. In the recent years, yahoo and Gtalk came out with some great features so I stopped using MSN Messenger altogether. Nevertheless I'm sad to know that it is closing down, hope Skype is able to offer great features in future.

When did AIM stop its development? I just upgraded mine to a new version the other day.
