I brought a new motherboard and CPU because I sold my old ones to my brother; fitting them in was a pain in the arse because the cables in my case are everywhere, there's not enough room, and I've never been able to keep a steady hand (making putting in screws an irritating experience). Aside from not being able to screw the board in some places due to the crap screws/standoffs, as well as scratching the top of the CPU (because the **** clip wouldn't go over it correctly), everything was fine...

...and then I edit to re-install Windows 7...

...and having to wipe both my SSD's...

...and having to constantly switch my computer on and off and on and off because the BIOS settings were acting up, not loading the right boot device first or not enabling USB devices so I had to short the CMOS constantly.

AAAARRRGGGGHHH.

It looks as if I've got everything working now, fortunately. Fingers crossed.

I absolutely hate taking PC's apart.

'If it's not broken, don't fix it' is my case. I know if I took anything apart, tried to improve something by doing so or whatever, I would in the end just **** it up entirely.

Screwing in motherboards is the hardest part about building a computer. Everything else is easy in comparison.

If all the wires in the case caused a bit of trouble, you probably have pretty sucky airflow to begin with. I'd consider remounting the power supply, and wiring all the cables through the back of the case, behind the motherboard. This is why it's nice to have a good case and/or a modular power supply.

As far as reinstalling your OS goes, you should do that anyway, every so often. It's good to get a clean install every once and a while, and if you're doing a major upgrade like that... why not?

Taking PCs apart can be a pain, but so is forking over the money for someone else to do it.

So my hard drive was making a really weird noise, so I sent it back. I got the new one today and it's making the same bloody noise!

Also, I'm getting blue screens of death. :(

Sounds strange to be getting the same noise. Is it definitely coming from your HD, not say a noisy fan that seems to be coming from the HDD?

Have you overclocked your CPU? If so, that could be the cause of the problem. Even if you think it's a stable overclock, it might not be.

Could it be your SSD? Many people have complained about SSD's causing bluescreens, especially the ones with OCZ controllers. If you're running your SSD's in RAID, try not doing that and see if the problem persists. You shouldn't run SSD's in raid anyway. It kills them.

Also, could the cause be a software program? Does it only happen when you're playing video games, or in Photoshop?

You should also consider that it may be your power supply. Are you sure that it's capable of supporting the graphics card(s) you have? Even if the rated wattage is fine, check the required amperage on the 12v rail, because that's what actually matters. Even if your power supply meets the requirements, it could be faulty, and remember that old power supplies often aren't capable of outputting their rated power, especially if it's a cheapy.

As a last resort, I'd say it's the motherboard. But, you know, nobody wants to replace those, so it's always best to save that for the end of the troubleshooting process.

And, if it helps, here's a blue screen reader tool. It will show you the details of every bluescreen that's been recorded. I've found it very useful.

I don't hate computers, but I sort of hate phpBB, but only cause I cannot understand it. However, though, I figured out how to update MyBB so I continued to love it. Therefore, I figure people hate the stuff they cannot understand. In my case, I cannot understand a certain type of forum software.

This is one of the reasons why they call me "handy man" in the house. If it's broken, I most definitely will want to fix it. I like pulling things apart even when it's not broken...unfortunately it turned out bad for me the day I pulled my system apart. So yes, I've experienced the same as you.
