Hostess Going out of Business

Sadly I've seen this happen way too many times.

Brach's-my BFF's parents both worked there.

MaryAnn bakery-friend's dad worked there forever, then they closed (later sold to S Rosen's...moved on to

Entanmann's and we all know that closed too in Northlake. Yes the company was sold but they chose to run the business out of state.

I forgot to add Maurice Lennel Cooky Factory--same thing happened there too. The owners son was way over his head on how to run the business and ended up selling the recipes and the place closed down.

Praying for all the employees that the company will be purchased by another company that will restore some luster to the brand.

In most of the bakeries, the contract was rejected unanimously. Why would you accept a contract that says, hey we are planning to lay off 1/3 of you and the ones who get to stay will have to get extra jobs because we are going to cut pay big time.

Because its the logical thing to do. :snort: Did some more searching it came down to one smaller shortsighted union.

"Hostess had already reached a contract agreement with its largest union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The Teamsters had urged the smaller union to hold a secret ballot on whether to continue striking. Citing its financial experts who had access to the company’s books, the Teamsters had said that Hostess’ warning of liquidation was “not an empty threat or a negotiating tactic” but a certain outcome if workers continue striking."

If the Teamsters can understand the reality of the situation, the bad union should have been able to also. Now everyone at the company is out of a job. I feel bad for the other employees that worked there and did not support the strike and are also losing their jobs because of this.

I feel bad for the workers losing their jobs that didn't agree with the strike.

This really sucks for all of the employees. I am not sure about all the complexities of this situation, but it does seem odd to me. The workers would have had to come back to work and take an 8% pay decrease, which really sucks, but it is better than not having a job, right? If they came back and didn't like the decrease, they could have still looked for a job while working. What really is insane in this situation is that the higher ups took insane pay increases in 2011 when they knew the company was going under. Greed has no bounds.

:shesaid:

I am sure Twinkies will live on in one form or another.

Union busting and over paid executives are what killed good paying jobs in America.

I respectfully disagree. Over paid executives yes union busting no.

I worked at Kraft and when I started there it had just like 4 years before got rid of the union. With the union employees made a bunch less money and the attitude was unreal. The old union peeps where crazy if you ask me. If they sucked at thier job they thought they should still hold it becuase of senority. It was carzy town there for about the first 10 years I worked there. On say Fridays if the lines went down and there was NOTHING to do if say a less senior person like me volutonteered to go home early with out pay I would have to ask every senior person if they wanted to go home first, (no problem I get that) but say you started your shift at 7:00am and done at 3:00pm and by 7:15 there was no work one would think if you said you would leave it would you could go right away right??? Well if the senior person said they wanted to go home early they set the time that they would leave... when were they willing to leave??? most of the time they would elect to leave at 2:45pm. And it was never just 1 or 2 people that could leave early it would be like 6-7 people and the hatred for Kraft was so great that they felt is was the right thing to do , so looking at it from Krafts view they would pay people for 7.5 hours to do NOTHING.. and that would be only one of the departments overall shift it was more real to say about 20 people sat in the lunch room all day doing NOTHING sucking the pay. This is the way it always was when the union was there and it took a long time to get rid of that mantality. And our pay every year they were able to "save money" ( by little things as not allowing people to sit and do NOTHING) our pay went higher and higher. Wages actually went up by almost 9 dollars acrossed the board in a matter of 4 years. Younger less senior peeps tha were there during the union and some are still there today say getting rid of the union was the best thing ever.

IMHO when a union protects the dead beats and holds every down it is time for them to go.

C/P from a FB Friend's status....

Quote of the day "So, Twinkies can survive a nuclear holocaust, but not a second Obama administration."

I just talked with my friend and I was just reminded this is not just twinkies ding dongs, etc & wonder bread, they also make Natures Pride Bread, Beef Steak Rye, they make some of the generic breads for the stores, Dolly Madison, Home Pride and some others. The bread shelves are going to have some big empty spaces.

this sucks becuase my downfall is the chocolate gems and cruller donuts. well, then again, this may help me lose weight. :snort:

as if there aren't already knockoffs out there...they taste the same to me

...they'll just sell/lease the rights to another company....twinkies need to die I think either way; they just don't taste that great

but it stinks since they also make the "donettes"

My kids really love the donettes too. It was always the treat I bought for camping trips. And I've tried some of the other brands, not as yummy.

yes, donettes taste best. i have tried many chocolate ones out there and hostess are the best. I just got turned on to the cruller donettes..yummm

that is funny you should mention that. I just saw them today for first time at WAGS. I mentioned something to the manager who was right there about never seeing them before and he said that the hostess guy was there today and was crying cause he is losing his job. So sad!!!

I've bought the Apple cider ones from Walmart ....they go fast though. And yes, that brand is best when it comes to the tiny donuts. Sad situation, but as others have said, they will have someone rose make it.

did anyone find/buy any twinkies today? walmart is out . I found a few zingers and cupcakes by hostess at target. they are selling twinkies etc on ebay already.

I am going to use some of the cupcakes for my DD b day tomorrow. way easier them baking a cake.
