:hides: I was planning to do a little CVS tour this morning since I didn't do much shopping yesterday. Planned to start out at my local CVS but that didn't work out too well. I pulled in the parking lot and saw two cop cars and what I think was a fire department car at the front entrance. There was also crime tape on the front doors. One guy was walking away from the doors and I rolled down my window to ask what was going on. He said it looks like the store was closed with the crime tape. So I drove away and headed to a few other CVS's.

I just read on a local FB group that my CVS was robbed early this morning and shots were fired inside the store. Thankfully no one was hurt.

SON OF A ****! :surrender: this is a tiny quiet little town. Yes, there are plenty of drunks but that's generally our biggest problem. (It's an Irish town :giggles: St.Pat's parade is the biggest happening in our town all year.) Scary ****.

I'll have to wait until Wednesday to get the scoop from my favorite cashier. She wouldn't have been on overnight but would have gotten there around 6:30am. She's off Tuesdays but I'll have to make a point to go Wed. am to get more details.

The last big thing that happened in that store was probably 5+ years ago when a car drove into the front windows. Two cashiers were injured.

Yikes!! Maybe they were getting some booze?

Best they could do at CVS would have been beer. Prolly either cash or drugs. I was just talking to one of the guys here at work. His wife works for a NJ police department and she said when some NJ towns were devastated after Hurricane Sandy, police were told to concentrate on drugstores to prevent looting as that was the biggest target.

I'm glad you weren't there at the wrong time. Makes me think of the time I was driving from one KMart double location to another. I was trying to make it to the second location before they closed, and I was preoccupied running scenarios in my head as I drove. I missed my usual turn and had to go a different (but not longer) way that took us through a less desirable section of town. I was within yards of passing the CVS when my van was shot. It really scared me, even more so cause my ds was with me. We never stopped until we got to the second KMart. Not like I would pull over and get out after being shot at. Thankfully no one was hurt, but where we were shot at is within yards of a heavily traveled road that we go down all the time. I very rarely go to that CVS, definitely not at night.

This reminds me that I read on fb yesterday about a standoff in a mall in a nearby town. I didn't catch all of the details, just that the guy had a gun (rifle I think) and it ended peacefully.

Local patch site just posted an article about it -

An armed man robbed the CVS in Pearl River, firing at least one shot into the ceiling before leaving early Monday morning, according to Orangetown Police.
The suspect, described as a black male, approximately 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds and dressed all in black, entered the CVS with a hand gun, announced it was a robbery and asked staff to take him to a safe.
He was told the staff could not open the safe. The staff gave the man an undetermined amount of cash from the registers and cigarettes before he fled out the front door at approximately 4:38 a.m.

Glad he didn't pick a busier time to rob it.

You just never know. Our little grocery stores have been robbed a couple times...so scary.

Thanks guys!

It's not like it was a near miss - I can't remember the last time I was out at 4:45am - but it's still shaken me up more than I thought it would. Yes, there have been armed robberies in nearby towns but I really can't recall one in my town. Sure, there's been crime here - including a few murders - but this is MY CVS. I spend more time there than I'd like to admit.

I can't wait to talk to Vickie (fave cashier) Wednesday morning. She's always great with CVS gossip so I'm sure this will be all she'll be talking about for a while.

I'm telling you it was not a good day for my CVS yesterday. An SUV hit the store yesterday afternoon. The wall is boarded up outside and several aisles are roped off. I think that's the 4th time that's happened to this store. Apparently the peeps in my town aren't very good at parking.

Cashier I had this morning wasn't chatty. Will have to go back tomorrow am to talk to Vickie.

OMG Joan, you mean it's still open after the suv hit it? Holy ****! Glad that no one was injured. That's crazy! Did they ever determine why the guy robbed it? Was it just for $$$?

Yup - still open. They have the wall boarded up outside and there's tape inside with signs to close the area that was affected. The SUV didn't manage to break through the wall but it did some damage.

Didn't really hear much new about the robbery - local news has the same story they had yesterday. I'll hopefully get some details when the friendly chatty cashier is on tomorrow morning.
