I'm sure there's a thread somewhere about this, but I couldn't find it. How much do you tip your mailman, paper person, etc. (If you do)? :bee:

$30?!? That's very generous. I think there is a limit as to how much a Federal employee can receive in gifts. It used to be $15 when I worked as gov't employee, but probably a little higher now.

My mailman got a box of FM chocolates.

I thought the same thing. I guess I'm cheap. Does anyone give their mail person a tin of cookies or would those not get eaten? My mailman is really nice and I feel bad because Sadie wants to eat him. Last week he tried to "meet" her in hopes that she wouldn't hate him so much, but she wasn't having it. I had to hold her down. :surrender:

Is $10 in a nice card too cheap to bother? Would it be an insult?

This year I gave $20 Target gc's to everyone--teacher, special ed. teacher, teacher's aide, bus driver, bus aide, speech/language pathologist, and mailman. Do you guys give a present to the Sunday school teacher too? I know his main teacher, but don't know the assistants and don't know the logistics of giving them all something...

My uncle is a mailman and appreciates any cash he is given.

My dh was the UPS guy for 25 years. Anything was always appreciated. He was great at his job and would get anywhere from $1500 to $2500 in cash. He got $5 from some and $100 from others. He also was given Dept. 56 gifts (which you may see in pictures if I ever finish decorating), gift baskets, Bulls/Bears tickets, wine, liquor, candy, cookies, dinner certificates....EVERYTHING!!! It was all appreciated. I miss those days a little.

There's just something about dogs and mailmen. My neighbor's little Westie, who barks a lot to begin with, barks like a crazy dog at the first sighting of the mailman. Doesn't stop until he's completely out of her sight. Ruffle has a pretty good view from the living room window. :giggles:

Haven't given a tip to the mailman in several years - for a while we had a total idiot delivering the mail - seemed like just about every week we got someone else's mail and would get pieces dropped off from neighbors regularly. Within the past year we got a new guy and he's great. Haven't gotten anyone else's mail in a long time and he's a friendly guy. I was thinking of giving him something this year and $10 was the amount I was considering.

Just think, if 10 families give him $10, there's $100 right there.

Also used to tip the garbagemen but stopped doing that too.

Wow that's great! Back when my Mom had a gift shop, we LOVED our UPS guy (Bill). He did us a lot of favors so I know my mom treated him good at Christmas. I miss chatting with him. He's retired now and is a meter man to keep busy. :)

Now let's see that Dep. 56!!!

That was my thinking too. I have never and will never tip garbage men. I have a love/ hate relationship with them.....................as in I love to hate them. :snicker:

I always give the Sunday school teachers a $25 gc because they are donating their time

What about your hairdresser or the shampoo person (mine is a guy)? Do you give them something extra for the holidays, and, if so, how much/what?

I am going to give $15 to the mailman and garbage man. They are both great. The garbage man took all the debris from our recent remodeling without a word, he even took the torn out carpet and plywood that DH just laid on the side walk without putting in trash cans or bags.

I love this thread every year!

I send a $15 check to my Trib delivery lady's house - she puts a flyer out with her info (kind of ballsy - but hey, it works!). Then when she cashes it, I know she got it; and I'm not standing outside at 5am waiting for her.

We seem to have a different mail carrier every day - so I'm not sure what to do about that.

Otherwise, all teachers and music/art/etc and RE teachers will be getting FM candy this year and some cool notebooks my brother makes at fieldnotesbrand.com which he gives me for free. I do make my kids write a real note to their teachers, not just sign the card.

Yahoo! I had it easy and cheap this year.

I have my mail lady fannie may and a glade candle :-). Also sent fannie may to the homeschool coop leaders. I know cash is appreciated. But i would rather give "stuff" than money

This year I'm giving my ups man some fm candy, he is really nice and has been delivering to us for years. I'm thinking maybe a target gc $10? And mailman, well, we get our mail like at 4-5 pm every day. Seen him one day at cvs shopping! Lol. School teacher is getting fm candy too.

Btw, I'm thinking of turning in my mail carrier to the Postal Inspection Service for Christmas. My mail gets misdelivered weekly and I get neighbors mail too. He delivers the right house number to the wrong street all the time. As a courtesy I drive it over to the other neighbors. They hand mine back to him to misdeliver again. Also, I will get no mail for several days, then get several bundles all in one day. I swear I have the guy that will be on the news that has been taking it home with him or in the trunk of his car.

WTF?! That's messed up! I would call your postmaster and make a complaint.

$10 to the paper lady...no house to house mail delivery here...we pay out the wazoo for garbage as it is...
