My soon to be ex-dh (and no, the d does not stand for dear, lol) took too many people in his car to a Chicago Wolves game (1 1/2 hour ride from our house) and made my 9.5 year old son share his seat and seat belt with his 13 year old cousin! Not only is this extremely dangerous, but it is illegal. When I said something to him he asked..."what did I do wrong?"! And there were 2 other adults in the car who also allowed this. I called our local police and they told me they can't do anything unless they catch him driving this way. I am sooooooooo pissed that he would endanger our kids this way and think nothing of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the first hairbrained idea that he has done that has potential disaster written all over it. And of course, I've been accused many, many, many times over that I am always overreacting! Does anyone know what can I do about this?

Years ago, people would pack cars worse than that and drive longer distances. Most of the time, everyone ended up being fine. But once in a while something would happen. So laws were enacted, but loosely enforced. Now you have two choices from the way I see it: 1. Give the ex the "Don't EVER do that again" speech. A point of emphasis should include the crazy eye while referencing a dull rusty knife and the removal of his man parts. Your soon to be ex will think you're crazy, but he won't want to see if you'll actually go through with it. Since most men will not risk it. or 2. Restrict your son from doing anything with his dad and get a son that despises you.

Calling the cops was a bad idea. It is much more powerful if he fears you than the cops. Chances are, they would give him a warning ticket anyway. So what does that do? The crazy card works so much better.
