Our friend from High School is passing. We're so sad and want to send something to the family that doesn't live close but I'm not sure what's right? They have three young kids and I think flowers would be a waste, I've heard fruit baskets are a lot of work for the recipient. Any ideas? I was thinking of a bakery delivery etc? Thank you so much for any help!!!

I was thinking a local food certificate, too. If your friend isn't passing immediately, maybe you could put together a pizza/popcorn/movie basket for the family to enjoy an evening together.

Pizza is a great idea, I know she's exhausted from caring for DH and the kids, plus she has so much family in right now they're prob doing all the cooking. That would be good for later when things are quiet. It's a matter of days, sadly no more time with the family as far as a certificate for time together.

Gift card to restaurant!
When my bff's dad passed suddenly a few years ago she got lots of them and said it was a real blessing to know she could just pick up dinner for the family some nights when she jsut didn't have energy to deal with making it!

I've been trying to research pizza places but it's in a small town (granger IN) and they dont seem to have anything I recognize like an Aurelios etc. I don't want to bother the family right now, any suggestions? Thanks everyone for the help!

You could always call the local library there and ask for suggestions of local pizza places.

Looks like they have an Applebees in Granger. Maybe the family could do carside to go?

Or else you could buy a prepaid visa and put a note in that you wanted to buy them a dinner out, their choice of where.

Just an idea..

Prayers for all of them as well as you and your family

I think you could probably call almost any business in town and if you actually explained why you wanted a recommendation you would get a thoughtful recommendation. I guarantee anywhere I have worked if we had received a call like that we would have polled every available employee and come up with as solid of a recommendation as possible. Good luck!

I agree a restaurant in town would be great...but my mom who works for a police dept. cannot tell you how many calls she gets like that...the problem is that this ties up the lines for other peeps...please try NOT to call your local police dept. about that....not trying to be mean or insensitive but just saying there are other ways to find out...the web is probably best. And I am sorry for your friend...I will say a prayer for her and her family.

Thank you for this - it worked and I know her kids will be happy. And thanks so much to everyone who helped me think that through! He did pass yesterday after a fight with cancer so the prayers are very much appreciated.....:flowers:

There's a nice article on him here, he was a neat guy:
