So as the title says, Have you ever been scammed on the internet? What exactly happened and what did they scam you for? People get scammed on the internet everyday, but I myself have never been scammed.

I was almost scammed when I was given a WHMCS module for free, and then when the owner started over, and I re-requested the plugins, I was almost given a bill for them
I remember buying a website for $450, the seller told me it was making decent revenue, but yet, when I took over, the traffic numbers weren't as much as he claimed they were, and the revenue wasn't either, so I was scammed pretty bad.
DDSorry to hear, thats why you have to do your own research before buying a website. The same goes with a car, and house. What exactly do you mean? So you didn't own it, and it was given to you to use but when he started over you were almost billed for it? How did you sort it out?

WHMCS Gold started off offering their WHMCS Modules for free, then one day the site went down and everything was reset, including now being charged for them on new orders. When I questioned it the owner kindly cancelled the invoices and allowed me to re-download them from the client area for free since that's when the original agreement was when I signed up to get the WHMCS Module.
Oh okay, well glad it was all worked out. Since I have never been scammed I guess I got it coming in the feature

I haven't really been scammed. Having said that I am extremely paranoid when it comes to things like that

I've never been scammed real money on the Internet, nor do I plan to.

That's quite the accomplishment. But you're smart; a lot of people that get scammed aren't. For example, the other day I read a designer complaining that he didn't get paid because he agreed to give the theme over before any money was given to him. That wasn't that smart.I'm proud to say I've never been scammed at all. I have no idea how I've managed it though
Yeah. If I'm doing paid work, I always right up a contract and usually agree with the contractor that they should at least pay a deposit. I also never give them a full snapshot of the design unless it has watermarks on it - just in case.

How do you get the contract to be legally binding?
I don't I just make sure they sign it so I have a written agreement of my terms and the stated cost. It's mostly just because most people will be deterred by the idea of having signed it.

I almost got scammed on a hosting package this week. Or, when it happened, I thought I'd been scammed. I was so sure I'd been taken for my money and it made me upset.
It all started when I was signing up to get my paid hosting (which I had previously with another company) and they presented the receipt. Everything looked right. Then it said something like, click through to client area. So, on a hunch, I opened that link in a new tab and they acted like I hadn't just paid. So I went back to the first tab and checked around. Then I noticed the pay now and subscribe buttons at the top of the screen and clicked subscribe figuring the page must have been a bill and not a receipt. Then another receipt came up and they gave me login details.
Then I went to login to (what I thought was ) the cPanel and Firefox warned me the site couldn't be trusted for invalid certificate. I clicked to create an exception, this being MY cPanel after all and having no choice otherwise.
When it finally let me through the entire cPanel was in Arabic (or what I'm assuming is Arabic, cause of the look of the letters). I got chills. I was really scared that I might have been scammed, that maybe I was dealing with one of those international hack sites that promise a lot, get your paypal details and then drain your paypal and bank account. So I was racing all over this site looking for help buttons and tutorials and even tried to email the company three or four times. And, each time, Firefox wouldn't let me do it saying they had an invalid certificate or something like that. And, when I went to the support site, they wouldn't let me login to even email the company.
Red flags were popping up all over the place. I was a nervous wreck. The whole thing started stinking of a scam cause except for details of my purchase, there was nothing to show for what I'd purchased.
There was no cPanel to even look at. And, that was odd cause I had just days before used the FREE (no ads) version of the very same hosting company. So, there should have at least been some kind of cpanel to use.
Anyway, I was really freaked out, so I went over to Paypal to take a look at the subscription details and noticed double bill charges. Even Paypal seemed confused over whether or not I'd paid twice or had been charged double or subscribed twice. They were all over the place. Though I don't blame Paypal. It wasn't their fault.
I canceled the monthly host subscription. I thought that was the end of the situation. I resigned myself to being done with the matter and just chalking the whole experience up to hard knocks, lesson of life and all that jazz. It was only $14, domain name included. Not much to lose, even for a scam.
Then, this morning the company kindly emailed me with my domain name set up and hosting account login details to THE REAL cPanel. Apparently the other cpanel i was looking at was just their trial demo panel to practice on till mine was set up. I must have really been tired not to notice that wasn't the real cPanel but was just a demo. I was worried.
Apparently, I didn't take into account how long it would take them to register the new domain name and get my site set up on THEIR servers. That's what the hold up was about. Still, I wish they had sent a nice little email after my purchase explaining this. Now I have to go back and resubscribe through Paypal though I'm already paid up for this month.
I checked it out and apparently it's a legit hosting site. I guess I must have been freaked out over nothing. It takes a lot to get me freaked out over anything but the idea of being scammed, even out of ten or twenty dollars makes my blood boil. My philosophy is if you need twenty bucks that bad, I'll be more than happy to give it to you, no need for scams. I don't have lots of money and I'm not a rich person, but my heart is open and I know blessings and good things will always come my way. And, that philosophy helps me stay positive even as others wilt in the sun.
I was surprised how many actually good features there were to this hosting company that I had thought the worst about. For one thing, they had a one click installer for both SMF and phpBB forum software not to mention Joomla. I believe it's called Joomla. I haven't tried it out yet.
Anyway, I tried out the cPanel today and just on a lark, had them install TWO separate versions of forum including SMF and phpBB onto separate sub-domains. I doubt I'll develop those. I just wanted to try it out and see if it would work.
Funny thing is, I spent three days installing (and then reinstalling) SMF free software onto the free version of my now current hosting site and lost so many hours of sleep. And, now turns out it can be done in a single click.
I'm red faced but happy over the outcome of the hosting situation.
