Does anyone know if you pay SS and medicare when you draw a private employer pension?

You need to check with HR then because $2,600 would mean about $130,000

DH has been working overtime lately, so on his checks where he has overtime the SS taxes are higher. So the increase should be slightly lower when two overtime checks are not compared.

:dunce: Necessary, you mean to support the Illinois Demoncrats who can't stop spending?

Agreed, the continual election of tax and spend Democrats are killing your paycheck and the State of Illinois. I find it funny and highly disturbing that a Governor can be elected by only carrying 2-3 counties in the state.

IMO its not a tax increase. Its the end of the "tax holiday". The SSA is not flush with cash. We are contemplating raising the debt ceiling again. Smoke and mirrors. I'd love to see anyone in politics with the balls to try to find a real solution.

Yup - check went down and our medical insurance is about to go up so the check will go down yet again. I'm trying to resist the urge to lower the percentage I put into my 401K to try and even things out a bit. :surrender:

What happened to all of that Hope and Change that was promised.

What She said...the treat was the past lower 2%, this is just returning to reality.
Whether it's really a tax increase or not is just a matter of semantics. It's funny (not) that when the politicians decrease the level of increase don't they cut that a cut? Not arguing about what it's called though - just noting that politicians phrase it the way they want it to be seen.

This FICA holiday was fiscally irresponsible in the first place, and was just economic stimulus in disguise.

HATE when they cook the books.

I wondered what the hell happened to freyguy...perhaps he/she has been lurking all along!

The more education and experience I have, the less I make.
DH lost job, lower income....I have to pick up insurance....lower income.....more to flex spending....lower income...more taxes... Lower income. I agree JRL ****illinois. I'd move in a heartbeat from this state if I could!

I was trying to figure this out the other day--my check went down about $8 and I insure 2 people on that check so I can't imagine my insurance didn't go up at least that much. I kinda wish I would have printed out my stub while I was there yesterday. Only thing I can think is that I got some sort of raise they didn't tell me about. Anyway... so far so good... It was an awful year, so I could use some unexpected New Year good news...

Has anyone noticed that on your W2 form your employer is now reporting the value of your health insurance? Hate to see where that is headed.

Where it's headed is right in the language of the Affordable Care Act. Employer-paid health insurance benefits will at some point in the future be treated as taxable income.
