Ross Dress for less has its GRAND OPENING at 12 locations Saturday 10/8
http://www.rossstores.com/chicago.aspx

I would think there will be some great deals going on this weekend there.

I signed up for their email just in case they are going to email out any coupons.

I shopped there years ago when I was vacationing in San Francisco and from what I remember, it's similar to a TJ Maxx or that kind of store. I'm curious to see what they have!

I am also curious, I like TJ Maxx and Marshalls so I am excited about seeing what this store is all about.

I can't wait either!! The TJ Maxx and Marshals near me are nasty dumps with over priced clothes (seriously we get stuff at Kohl's for cheap!). I hope Ross is more affordable.

I used to shop at Ross years ago, and I thought it was a dump. And that the quality of the clothes were cheap - hopefully they've gotten better! But cheap it was, which was what I needed at the time.

Hmmmm sounds like the CW Price that has taken place of the AJ Wright. CW Price is a totally worthless waste of time.

It is the kind of store where they may have an item in only one size. You have to stand there are sort through all of the items in your size to see what you like. Then if you find it is too big or too small you have to do the same thing in the size up/down and they may not have it available.

Don't take children. Don't expect it to be a quick trip. Do go with a huge amount of patience. You'll wait for a changing room. You'll wait to check out. You won't find any sales staff to help you.

That said if you can do all of the above you can get some nice clothes at great prices.

Maybe it's just me but I don't really buy any clothes at TJ Maxx or Marshalls or that kind of place. Even though they don't say it, they always seem like they are irregulars to me and I don't really care for them since the fit always seems a little "off" to me.

However, I do love to browse the other stuff that is there. I find some really nice home furnishings there for good prices, like silk flowers, serving platters, that kind of stuff. I've bought Reebok shoes there before. I have also found some nice purses there from time to time. I found a Dooney & Bourke purse at TJ Maxx not that long ago. It was marked down to about 75.00 but was 250.00 in the store about 6 months ago.

I don't shop at Marshals or TJ Maxx but I do like their sister store, Home Goods. I love the one in Glenview because they mark stuff down fairly quickly. Last time I went I got a nice big baking dish for $7 and another one for $8 that I use all the time. Their prices aren't too bad but like everything else, it depends on what you feel the worth of the item is to you.

I'm excited about Ross coming here. I shopped at one while I was in Cali in May. I liked it. Very similar to Marshalls & TJ Maxx but more selection and better prices IMO. I bought a summer dress for $13. I've gotten compliments on it everytime I've worn it. Oh, I also don't know how they will be here, but in Cali I didn't have to wait for a changing room. There was plenty to choose from. LOTS of different sizes. The whole process took all of 10 minutes.

Just wondering how nice the clothing is. I am the Step Mother to the Groom, and his Bride's Mother bought her dress there.
I purchased my dress at Carson's and was worried that it was not expensive and dressy enough.
It may be that I have the nicer dress . That would make me very happy.

I love Home Goods too. I was so excited years ago because I happened to stop in one day and they had pieces of my discontinued china just sitting on the shelf! I had been looking for some of those pieces for a couple of years. Needless to say, I kept going back to that store every few days hoping they would put more out but finally gave up after about 2 months. I was able to get 5 or 6 things that I had given up on so I was still pleased.

They were open yesterday but I did't go, I'm excited to see what this store is all about today.

First off the place is a totally random DUMP. Never will go back. Unorganized, little merchandise just a complete waste of time and gas. Makes me miss AJ Wright. lol

Here is what turned me off:

Randomness every where.

Champion work out pants,$9.99. For the exact same pants, I paid $3 at Target!

Gee overpriced much?

I went by yesterday it was so crowded my DD & I decided to wait until today to go. The selection was very limited, I don't know if this is because they were packed yesterday and need to restock, but I was disappointed.

I thought it was going to be better then it was but I too thought the shelves where empty and the displays lacked much merchandise. People had stuff in their carts but really there wasn't much that we would buy there.

It looked almost exactly CW Price.

I wouldn't give up on it just yet. There have been lots of times I have gone and found nothing. The last time I went (mind you this was in Florida) I was able to get 10 items for $120 including tax. It was a total score.

I'll wait a few days and hope that they restock before I go and check it out then. IME, places like this can be hit or miss ... if you go on a day they unload a truck and put a bunch of new stock out, you might find a deal. But if you go a few days later, sometimes all that's left is crap LOL.
