Glad some news organizations found their balls, no more hate tolerated

Well -- to be honest -- I am aware that we have enemies.....both foreign and domestic. And if you do some research you might discover that there are those that believe Oklahoma City -- which was blamed on Tim McVay -- but he worked -- from the records -- with a fellow of Mid-Eastern descent -- who was never identified (but we know he existed from the rental truck records) - so while I feel safer from the threats of domestic terrorism -- I try to stay aware of all threats....as should everyone.

Fear everyone and everything. Good plan. Middle Eastern descent does not equal Muslim.

Sorry -- I am out of tinfoil. My coupons expired and Jewel has not had a sale in a good while. I did not realize that if I commented on the fact that someone was fired from their job over expressing an opinion I was going to be personally insulted. Well -- thank God it is a free country. I am going to go back to matching coupons. I feel no need to insult anyone. Please remember -- Freedom is not Free -- there are many of us who have given our loved ones lives protecting your right to express yourself here.

Do you get nervous when you see people who look like this?

I don't know anything about the context of what Juan Williams said. I think there is a way that you can be honest about an emotion you feel, but not proud of it. There are prejudices built deep into who we are by the way we were raised and our life experiences. That doesn't mean we have to embrace those prejudices. But I think being honest about them can help us deal with them.

I get nervous when I see peeps wearing tank tops, mini-skirts and thigh high boots....as I KNOW now that they've stolen my outfit for CHURCH....

But he did not say that he gets nervous when he sees males 20-30 in Muslim garb on a plane. He said when he sees anyone in Muslim garb.

Also, do people really think that someone who is planning to hijack a plane is going to wear traditional garb? They are going to try to fit in and look as American as possible. Terrorists are trying to blend in, they do not want to be caught. So the people that everyone is afraid of are probably just very devout religious people trying to live their lives. You might as well be afraid of orthodox Jews and women wearing ridiculously long culottes. (actually I am serious about the culottes, no one in their right minds wears those)

Clars: Excellent points. The fellow on the plane who had a bomb in his shoe was wearing a business suit as I recall and only spotted because there was smoke coming from his shoe.....now....have to go see what I did with my darn long culottes....(ROFL)

I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.

Now, I remember also that when the Times Square bomber was at court, I think this was just last week. He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts.

(Though I have withdrawn from this discourteous conversation -- in the spirit of accurate information, I decided to post the quote by Juan Williams that is referred to by the OP)

Fear is a powerful thing, and should be acknowledged. It seems that everyone on both sides, left and right, are playing a game of political correctness. It's a sad time in America when anything you say in public can be used against you. Everyone has a right to express their thoughts. Looks like some at NPR wanted him out of there and this was their opportunity to do so. Jaun will become a martyr. He'll get a job on Fox where he can be their "liberal voice" and say whatever he wants. Liberals to the left and Conservatives to the right, any apparent deviation will not be tolerated by either side.

But when I walk the streets, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in African garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Africans, I get worried. I get nervous.

He's had that job for a while now.

But see, that starts me wondering off the bat. The I'm no bigot but stuff. It's like people who tell racist jokes that start off with I'm not a racist but.

To turn the tables, what if someone said, I'm not a bigot, but I get nervous when I see someone carrying a Bible outside of an abortion clinic because they are identifying themselves first as Christians and Christians in the past have blown up abortion clinics.

I think that you have a problem in the way a segment of the population dresses scares you.

I went to school with Muslims, sat next to a Muslim girl for 3 years, worked in the same office with Muslims, shopped at the same mall with Muslims, you know what I fear most? The Christian women in my Church! I got so tired of the gossips and backstabbing, I took a year off to America, I met my husband while here, a few years later ended up here.

And I used to wear the long dress that Muslims wear, they are comfortable.

If very short, Polish women with lots of grey hair and a limp were involved in 9/11, yes, I, personally, could definitely understand that people might be uncomfortable with me.
I'm talking about me.... That is my opinion and I know I'm entitled to have one..... just as others are entitled to theirs.

Just thought I'd throw this in here.

"Bernie Goldberg, a Fox News contributor and author of several books on what he describes as liberal media bias, offered his take Thursday morning in an email to The Upshot.
"So Juan Williams is fired for saying something the liberals at NPR find controversial?" Goldberg said. "One more piece of evidence that liberals have forgotten how to be liberal." Goldberg continued: "These are the kind of people who brag about how open-minded they are -- as long as you agree with them. And here's the dirty little secret: lots and lots of liberals feel the same way Juan does when they get on an airplane. And a lot of those liberals work at NPR. Juan's 'crime' was saying it out loud." "
