Dog Food ?

I have lots of dogs (my DH would say too many) and what I do is mix all the dry foods in a large container and scoop out as needed. That way I don't have to be brand-loyal and they get variety. Some they like more than others, but none that they can't stand. These are all the "superior" brands from PetSmart, Petco, etc.

On a side note, I overheard a rep (while at Petsupplies Plus) talking about Nuturo having been acquired by Purina. She was unhappy about it, but I thrilled to the thought of more coupons!

A friend of mines hubby keeps trying to convince me to go raw with Tibbs... I just imagine it to be SUPER expensive!

My Save a Lot store regularly has 10/ lb. bags of chicken thighs for $5ish.....cheaper sometimes. I just don't know the comparision.....like how many thighs/ day would my dog eat? Then what about other nutrients? Seems like a lot of work.

Brody is a kibble dragger too. Grabs one or two bits runs away from the bowl, eats it, runs back. I have no idea why he does this!? I couldn't imagine giving him raw meat either.

I thought about the raw diet when we got Sadie, but we have a tiny house and as it is she drags her kibble all over the house....I don't want her eating raw meat with dripage all over kwim?

when we got our dog she was on IAMS_-I had heard she has a sensitive stomach so we have never switched her.. She does not get table food only IAMS--we buy the mini chunks even though she is a larger dog

Sadie girl only gets Blue Buffalo and natural treats.
My puppy Dodger only gets Blue Buffalo as well!
There was a rep at Petsmart and I asked for q's...he acted like it was a big deal to give me one for $2... Another rep gave me one for $5 off.

Of course, the puppy tries to eat everything in sight... He seems to have an affinity for gum and goose poop. UGH! Not sure he cares what he eats...

Sadie likes kitty crunchies.

(We don't have a cat, but I swear she can sniff out cat **** a mile away when we go for walks).

Does your dog spit out the little dark balls in the Blue Buff? Sadie does most of the time.....I'm always stepping on that damned things! :surrender:

we feed our dog one brand of dog food only. Mostly because if we give her cheapo alpo type food, she sheds, itches and smells funky. She smells horrible from 6 and 8 ft away. If you are familiar with golden retrievers, which is what our dog is, they shed alot already. Feeding her different foods does her absolutely no good.
Also, if you aren't regularly buying dogfood, don't go overboard right off. One reason is the food may not be good for her and suffer like my dog did. Or, and this happened to us also, the store may have "larder beetles" that come home with you in the dog food. This is why we quit using PetCo in Kenosha. I brought home a couple bags with them in it, I was not pleased as they will walk out the dogfood and into your home. We now shop petsmart and have had no issues.

In case you aren't familiar with larder beetles, here is a pic:

When they walk around your house, it will make your skin crawl even more. I was the vacuuming fool! When we realized wth they were, that store received not one shiny dime more.

I should also add, because my post made it sound like my house was crawling with them. It was not. A bit of backstory... I am a bug phobe!! If I knew there was a spider in my house, I would be up all night if I didn't kill it. It is not just at my house, its more of a if it crosses my path, it's dead. It's not only spiders it's pretty much any bug. My children/husband and I can discuss a bug or see a big on tv and I start scratching with the creepy crawlies. So for me, 1 or 2 bugs seems an infestation I can't handle. Don't want folks to think I am crawling with bugs here.

:faint:

DOODE! That's the only store I have shopped for dog food!!! OMG OMG OMG!!! Now I'm going to be a nut looking all over for that farking bug! Did you tell the store about it?

Eew. I am itching looking at the pix of the bugs. Uhhh, thanks?!

Mrs. Mom - Dodger inhales his dog food, dark bits and all. He is very food motivated, helps in puppy class as he learned to lay down within 2 min, when he realized he would get treats... We have been giving him cheerios as a training treat, then I read that hey may be not so good? Sigh.

I think the dog is eating better food than the kids. Wait, they barely eat anything...

No, mrsmom as I was not going to pick them up to put them in a baggy and bring them, ya know, proof.... When you read up on these **** bugs, most times they come from pet foods, so it wasn't hard for ME to figure out where they came from. Convincing a store they have bugs? I didn't want that battle. Since I quit shopping there, I have not had creepy crawly one...
