A new investigation finds a possible link between daily consumption of diet soda and increased risk of stroke, heart attack or dying from a vascular event.
Compared to people who didn’t drink diet soda, the risk of having a heart attack, stroke or dying from a blood vessel disease was 43 percent higher over a ten-year period for participants who drank unsweetened soft drinks daily.
In contrast, drinking regular soda and unsweetened soda occasionally did not seem to increase stroke and heart attack rates.
What does everyone think about this? Is it going to stop you from drinking diet soda?

It's a good thing I don't drink diet soda or any type of "soda" at all.
I prefer to drink either water ( I might have about 6 bottles in my refrigerator ) or juice, ;)

I used to drink a ton of soda. More so diet soda, but I stopped recently when I was told I need to lose some weight by my doctor. Diabetes runs in my family and she said I was getting borderline. But, Yeah as of today in the last 2 weeks I have lost 23 lbs :) I know its not a reasonable goal because ill never be back to high school weight, but I am trying to lose 70 more to get back to solid muscle. I don't even know if its possible LOL.. But yeah I have found that not drinking a lot of soda has improved my sleeping and such also

I'm also trying to lose weight. For my weight, all the sites online say that I should eat 4k calories to keep my weight. Screw that, I'm not eating nomore than 2k calories these days, and also do 30 minutes of cardio/day or more. I also lost about ten pounds. When I get hungry, I usually just eat something small like Ramen noodles, or Mac n cheese. It sucks cutting calories, but hey it has to be done.

Are you doing weights as well? Or just straight cardio-blasts?

I have not been doing much exercise at all really.. I just stopped in taking lots of carbs. I try to stay under 24 carbs a day. Which is not that hard really. The more you stay under them the more youll lose. Like yesterday I keep track of my carbs in a small notebook, I took in about 13 carbs. May have been like 13.3, but anyway when I went to bed and woke up I had lost 3 lbs just from sleeping. I mean of course once you hit like a cieling you are going to have to work out more, but I have an elliptical machine. And I am doing great. Plus I feel much better

That's actually what I use, the elliptical machine. I wish I owned the Treadclimber by Bowflex, it burns way more calories than the Elliptical.

Yes, I read that article a few days ago, and to be honest, it doesn't surprise me. In my opinion, Such drinks aren't healthy at all, they have all sorts of damageable ingredients that the companies don't list, the so called 'secret ingredients'.

It still doesn't stop me from drinking it from time to time. I cut it out a lot though, I don't drink it too much. I'd prefer it over drinking a regular soda. Which is also full of ****.

Glad I don't drink soda! Does diet soda use artificial sweeteners or anything like that? If it does, that stuff *might* be part to blame. I hear that diet soda is actually worse for you than the original soda. If you like your soda, you're better off just drinking the regular kind in moderation.

My doctor thinks I might be allergic to artificial sweeteners. I am on close watch, and on some potent medicine for an allergy breakout.

Ya, they do. Like, aspartame. Then you have a Diet Coke with Splenda that is also on the market. In moderation? Green tea is a lot better than drinking a cup of soda a day in moderation.

I can't stand most artificial sweeteners (the taste, ugh!!), and I avoid them like the plague - for me, it's real sugar all the way! :)

Especially saccharin and cyclamate, I hate them with a passion. I can immediately taste them in any food, and they taste extremely awkward to me. Ever since I heard during childhood that they are life-shortening, I avoided them whenever I could. lol

Aspartame is sort of okay-ish for me, but I don't like its taste. Sorbitol is okay taste-wise for me, but my digestive system thinks otherwise. ;)

I like real sugar best. But usually I keep the amount of sweet foods in my diet low (sometimes I need it though for my brain).

I think I will drink more tea without added sugar maybe add tiny bit of honey. I will drink water with fresh lemon in it with ice.
