Do you think it's a good idea to delete old and inactive accounts from a forum? I personally think deleting an inactive account from a forum is okay if the account has never logged in or, if they have; never posted before.
I don't think deleting accounts that have posts is a god idea, but say someone signed up and never bothered to post, I think deleting their account is fine as it would have never been properly used and it helps keep things tidy.
What's your opinion? Leave accounts regardless of activity or delete the old 0 poster accounts?
I agree with you on this. Deleting an account that has posted or had a lot of posts on a forum is not great. I joined here since 2018 and recovered my account once I came back simply because I have the login details still available.
As I said in another thread, I would only delete accounts that related to spammers or people who broke the rules in some way. I wouldn't delete an account just because it's old or they haven't logged in as they might want to use the forum again at some point. You never know really.
When it comes to deleting accounts from a forum, this is not something I do. You never know what someone may be going through in life and why they may not have logged in at all and to come back and want to sign in after a while, finding their account gone could be offputting. Also, when it comes to banned accounts, I do not delete them either as I feel that if you delete those, it is very difficult to check for people who ban evade. I never ban without good reason so I know if someone was banned, it was because I did not want them on my forum.
I do not encourage this as it destroys conversations that include their input and it also removes an email from your mailing lists. Sure, they may have turned off mailers and such, but a chance is better than nothing.
Considering the weak state of forums, anyone is lucky to have any member, aside from spam or harassing ones. I mean, it's no time to be choosy. Do you agree?
I had recovered various accounts after 6+ years of inactivity and I loved the idea of having an old account I wouldn't recommend deleting old accounts unless they are clearly spam.
