Dark side of couponing?

Yes she is ultra Catholic. She hasn't been able to but watches mass on tv.

Huh.....that must be what two little othe Italian ladies on my street do. I see them walking every morning.....figured they're just going for a walk, but Holy Rosary church is at the end of my block.....never thought about that. I'm Lutheran....once a week (if that lol) for us.

Probably is. A friend of my Mom tries to get to Mass every day and does so most times. She just turned 80 & feels really bad when she can't make it. An excuse for her is usually a medical issue, really nasty weather, or an issue with her husband who has Alzheimers. Not one of those "I don't feel like it" excuses the rest of us usually have. I've always been impressed by her dedication.

AND customers like the one my cashier have that scan and pocket coupons etc...are the reason for regular honest couponers to have problems too.

I don't really like Jill's talking down the people that buy enmasse....not as much because it hits home but because she doesn't explain that SOME buying that 75 jars ORDERED the product.

When I first read Jill ( a while ago now). I thought her answers about stockpilers were negative. I think they are in this article too. Reassuring that she doesn't buy multiples like the bad couponers doesn't help the rest of us much.

But, it is what it is.

I saw her article earlier and thought about posting it. Then thought better of being labeled a pot stirrer. Glad to find out that I am not the only one who was a bit shocked. But I can't believe she didn't think that most of us at CW wouldn't be insulted. I know she contributes; but doesn't she get a lot of info here like upc lists etc.? Kind of a don't **** where you eat sort of thing isn't it?

Jill claims she never sells things (and she probably doesn't have time for that), and she also says she doesn't encourage re-selling. But in her first few couponing classes, she taught with another speaker (it was presented as them being friends and doing the classes as a team). That other speaker encouraged selling products several times in the class -- even re-selling the freezer from the freezer deal so you could get the coupons.

I find her high-and-mighty approach a little hard to swallow when her Super-Couponing Classes encouraged students to re-sell. And now she pretends like that never happened in her classes...

I also don't see a problem with buying 75 jars of pasta sauce, unless the customer is splitting up the transactions and not letting other customers in between. The products are there to be purchased, right? And the store wants sales, right?

The friend that you are referring to is the person who taught Jill how to coupon. Jill actually did an article on this person (Amy) for a local news outlet in Huntley, when Jill was working as a journalist/reporter/writer. I don't know why Jill talks so much about how she taught herself how to coupon and how it's her way to organize inserts and so forth, she was taught how to do it by the woman she wrote an article about ... then they did some classes together, which Amy was already doing on her own prior to this and the rest is history ...

I know I'm stirring the pot, but I can't help myself right now - I'm usually pretty PC and neutral about things.

Anyone recall Hollie?

I remember Hollie. She used to have huge stockpile garage sales in Algoquin(spelled wrong). I used to be on Refundcents & she was always written up in their magazine & was in the Daily Herald several time. She was the founder(i think) of the Illinoisgooddeal loop site.
I have met Amy & she had told me her & Hollie were great shopping buddies.

Never met Hollie IRL, but traded coupons with her. Was in some of the groups with her and read about her in refundcents. I have the refundcents that she had the Tostito and Pepsi deal from Dominick's on a box at the bottom of the basement stairs. I still have a hard time throwing out coupons that she sent me even if I will never use them.

first of all people who copy coupons are not COUPONERS. they are THIEVES. they have nothing to do with legit couponing.

second of all . sorry if i want to buy 75 jars of spaghetti sauce its MY PURCHASE TO MAKE. it is NOT RUDE or WRONG if being done LEGIT. some people need to stuff it sideways.

:ranting:

If I buy 75 jars of spaghetti sauce...in cases. The cashier quantities the 75 jars in...then scans 37 $1/2 coupons.

That is 38 swipes of the scanner....and I pay.

That is A LOT less time and effort than a weekly shopper with $256 worth of stuff...top and bottom of cart. THIS is the rude shopper, rofl.

Seriously! The nerve of them to buy so much crap.

Oh, i have about 60 frozen dinners & guess what-I will eat them all (not all at once lol).If i'd had more q's then would have had more dinners. People need to get a life.

I think that Jill, as usual, is trying to make couponing widely accepted and accessible to the masses (read: helping people). She's trying to guide the newbies to make good decisions, thereby giving us (CW'ers and other high-level couponers) a good name and an easier time at the stores.

She may not have gotten it just right this time, but Jill is out there working for us couponers, not against us.

And BTW, I think most of us here know that we are obsessed with couponing, and we're perfectly okay with that!

I am currently obsessed with lot lizards.

I am a woman of many obsessions.
Have ya thought about the TA truck stop on stateline rd and I-94 ? I am positive there are some there. NOT THAT I KNOW ANYONE... just certain there are some.

I am oblivious when it comes to Jewel, it seems. I miss all the good stuff! (If noticing a hooker would be considered "the good stuff?") I mean, it truly is like asb said they don't go around yelling they are selling ..... ya know. They aren't hotdog vendors, really.

There's a joke in there somewhere. :giggles:
