Just saw this on the news this morning.
305 billion coupons were released from manufactures and only 3 billion were used. A growing number of people say that they don't use coupons "because they are for things they don't want"!!

Lets see if this benefits us that "only shop with coupons" huh, your thoughts?

Well, how much L'Oreal and vitamin coupons can the population use?

I think this simply reflects the increasing number of people on food stamps. It is going up about 5 million families a year right now.

i think it reflects a whole lot. as a more-than-average user, i know even my own coupon usage has decreased about half, if not more. so, if the avid users are like me (and its a safe bet to say so) than we likely represent a fair amount of that decrease.

One also has to consider the coupons that are used at the store level and never sent to the redemption center. My kid works at >a small grocery store< and they simply throw away the MQ that are redeemed, they don't think it's worth the labor hours for someone to deal with them for their stores.

My coupon use is down much more than 17 percent. Unfortunately, deals are just not worth it nearly as much as they used to be....

Since Kroger stopped double/triple almost 2 years ago, I rarely buy extra papers. I was getting 6 - 10 extras a week. The only store now that doubles/triples is Randall's (Safeway) and only 1 like coupon. I do see less people shopping with coupons now. Right after EC aired, everyone in the grocery store had their binders! Not so much these days.

I know my use has gone down.

Expiration dates are much shorter and Jewel not taking expired has hurt me. Usually I am just shopping the deals at fairplay and also go to Aldi.

I have been making an effort to stop at Dominicks lately. I love the 30% off bread and will buy 4 loaves at a time. I am working now and driving from store to store so I just stop on the way.

The value of the coupons also has dropped. Lots of 25 cent coupons out there now. P&G coupon values have really slipped over the past year. Also, you have a lot of coupons which require you purchase more than 1 item.

When I went yesterday to use my Hefty coupons they specified "per day". I hate to use this phrase but the companies are just"drinking the Koolaid "when it comes to wording on the coupons.like the Marcal small steps tp limiting it to one. Would like to complain to every company about these stupid restrictions

I am still at it. And judging from the big empty spot where the Downy and Bounce were at Target....I am not the only one. :giggle:

I will never stop couponing because I will never stop needing things. Deals may not be as exciting as they used to be but I still need to save money. And there are still deals out there just maybe not as evident. And maybe I even save more now because I don't buy as much crap as before.

Me too but it's mostly at CVS now and not much at supermarkets. I'll still use a few coupons here and there at ShopRite but not nearly as much as I used to. Couple of reasons for that - aside from the crappy deals I'm also living alone now and trying to eat less processed foods so my needs have changed. Still try to get deals on stuff I use (I stock up on the Smart Balance milk when it's on sale and there's a coupon) but since I don't need to buy as much as before, it's not quite that bad.

I'm babbling - it's just about bedtime. Snow/rain storm headed my way tomorrow. :surrender:

I must say " there are days where i get so sick and tired of chasing the deal, dealing with I Spy cashiers, getting rainchecks, coupons expiring cuz i cant get the deal or i am tired to go out, having to take my kids with me, forgetting to print out the target qs, etc etc etc! This list goes on but overall I feel this is what is keeping me home, working my direct sales business and trying to make it through another winter not having to rush to work to have the boss **** and moan!!! It has its pros and cons but like many, I have to coupon, I cannot imagine paying full price for most things anymore!

Ive switched to a lot of natural or organic stuff but still get Qs in where i can, like CVS $4/20S :)
We've changed our eating habits to mainly fresh vegetables and fruits. I was looking at MUM's write up tonight of Ultra and saw Oreos $1.88 minus $1 insert Q so .88. I asked dh and I can't believe he said, "No." That man never turned down a cookie. He was always saying get as many as you can. I've always felt that if I didn't actually want the kids eating it I shouldn't be buying it, but still...... It's weird how I guess I'll be passing that deal up (I'm still tempted......I mean, they are Oreos!!!).

I think my coupon usage is up more than 17% in the past year. :hides: Janet and Ann, where do we store all our stuff?

But in all reality, even when couponing died down, I was thankful for my stockpile and all that I learned. I think that even though there might not be stellar grocery deals going on there are still deals to be had.
