Do you think competitive eating is a sport? I think it is. The amount of food these guys down in a short period is just mind blowing. I don't even know how they train their stomach to hold that much food.

Yeah some of the things they do can be disgusting. I saw this youtube video where this competitive eater drank a whole bottle of olive oil. He also downed a whole stick of butter.

I think it qualifies as a disease lol..and if we name it a sport, then we're not THAT far off from obese people being called athletes!! I'm not so sure if that's a good thing ;P

I don't think competitive eating should be considered as a sport for two cases. One: there is no physical activity involved in eating. Two: there is no unique skill or training involved either. How do you prepare for a competitive eating competition? I don't know of anyways to eat more than my body can handle; if you know of some, please inform me :).

Not a sport, just an interesting activity. Why some like to stuff themselves with as much food as they can is beyond me. I hate the feeling of eating too much.

Believe it or not, some do train for competitive eating. They practice consuming as much as they can, which stretches their stomach so they can consume more.

Man, there was a time this week when i was eating some wings, pulled pork and fries that i felt i was in a contest against my stomach.

It was soooooo good but didnt sit well after. lol

The idea behind playing a sport is to stay in shape. Competitive eating contradicts that idea completely.

I wonder it would feel like to be a competitive eater then. I always thought the amount you could eat was always at a defined amount based on your body. It's interesting to know competitive eaters stretch their stomach by consuming as much as they can:eek:. I also wonder if they stop eating for a day before a competition. Competitive eating seems like a hazardous activity to participate in:(.

I wish I could be as skinny as some of them and eat as much as they do! Although my wallet doesn't.

I don't know how they do it. I have just one burger and I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack! Speaking of which I wonder if any of them use the heart attack grill to train :)

You can pretty much train your body to eat so much. when I was bulking I was eating 6 big meals a day and even though the first 2 weeks were hard, after that I was hungry every 3 hours.

Totally agree with that Fred. Although it is far harder to train your body to eat less in my experience! 6 meals though - ouch! No wonder you were feeling so hungry so often after that. Hope it paid off!

Automatically felt hungry, and oh boy, if I missed a meal I was starving, stomach grumbling and everything.

It was hard to get back to normal eating habits, did enjoyed the food though, just not so much the cooking and expenses.

It's just a matter of what your body gets used to, same as how your stomach will shrink if you don't eat enough for a long period of time.
