Let's discuss........

What do you use?

What have you used??

What has not worked for you and why??

I am looking into my options. I am looking more for monthly "maintenance" than preventing pregnancy.

I was on YAZ for a long time. It worked well, and I do not remember having any side effects when I first started. Every 28 days to the exact hour and minute "my visitor" came.

I had a bad experience with BC pills.

I had an IUD for 5 years then 2 years ago got a new IUD (the first one I had was good for 5 years). Now that I am 40 and we really have figured out we want no more kids I am going to have the IUD removed and have Essure/ablation which will both sterilize me & stop my monthly periods :)

I have bad, bad periods so this option is particularly attractive.

I've tried a lot, from various pills to the shot and the patch...
The biggest thing for me is that they mess with my hormones and I become a psychopath!
The Depo-Provera Lo worked best for me as far as hormones go, but I cannot remember to take a daily pill.
The patch fell off frequently, and I always ended up with the sticky band-aid type ring around it, with fuzzies and stuff getting stuck to my skin.
The shot hurt for a few days, and it's right in the bum so it's sore to sit, and I had lots of breakthrough bleeding, even though I received 3 doses (9 months of protection).
This was the last birth control I used before we tried to conceive DS1, and it took us about 6 months to conceive.
Now I don't use anything hormone-wise. HTH

Tubes tied, a decision made in my "youth" at 23. Regrettable now, since I'm remarried to someone who 1) I like & 2) is an involved parent. ;)

DD17 (not interested in debating this, I'd rather have a dd on bcp than a 17yo with a kid!) just switched to Yasmin. It's a lower dose than what she was on before, and she's WAY less moody & emotional.

I've used the Depo shot and it f'ed me up big time....as in eliminated my sex drive....completely....

I don't use anything now which is why I'm horny all the time and every now and then I'll post where mistah misfires and I get all excited thinkin I might be preggo...

I used desogen until they switched me to reclispen. the 1st month on reclipsen I was ready to give up on that pill, but I just finished the 2nd pack of them, and this past couple of weeks I felt like I was more like my old self before I went on BC, so I may give them a chance.

Well I was happy with the IUD (and never got PG LOL) but one of the advertising selling points of them is that your periods may get lighter or go away but IME they are LIARS.

If you just want to regulate your cycle, there are a couple new pills out, Beyaz & Lo Loestrin which are lower in estrogen content. But these can be pricey. I would say go with a generic version, much cheaper with insurance. I personally don't understand why people pay $70 per month for birth control when they could pay $10 for generic. Do they realize what they can buy with the money the save each month? Check with your insurance to find it if anything is covered & how much it is. If not, some pharmacies do have pill forms for like $10 a month cash.

I have an IUD. I wanted something low hormone after my son was born so I could breastfeed. I also wanted something i did not have to think about. ....I hated it at first. I had my period for about 2 months strait. Now I love it- I have not had a period since!

I have Implanon. It's a match stick sized thing they insert into your arm (bicep) and lasts for three years. It never hurt, but creeped me out for a bit in the beginning. Minimized the friend's visit, but you have to make sure your doctor inserts it at the right time of the month. Mine didn't, and I had a month straight of the visit - blah! It's coming out early next year and I told the hubby it's his turn to take the responsibility of having no more little ones on the way!

I had the Mirena IUD. It worked really well. It last up to 5 years. According to the website it says "Reduces menstrual bleeding and cramps and, in many women, eventually causes menstrual periods to stop altogether. In this case, not menstruating is not harmful."

i have Mirena too. Same thing.

I agree. I have the Mirena and I am annovulatory, so yes I have much lighter periods, but they come every month now. It is mainly spotting, but it is irritating because it is not enough to use a tampon.

Do you have any spotting, or nothing? I havee been on it since December and still spot frequentlly and have a lot more discharge. I MUST wear pantyliners at all times AND P&G no longer is giving them away.

Nothing at all. Maybe I was just really lucky? I hated it at first, though. It hurt so much to get put in. My cramping was as bad as contractions. I considered having it removed weeks after placement, but glad now that I didn't.
