are you supposed to tip the groomers at Petsmart?

I don't own a dog, so this may be a stupid questions, but why can't you cut the dog's hair yourself? Like get a set or Wahl clippers and go for it. Unless you are showing the dog, just clip it. I clip my son's hair and have for 10 years. It isn't hard.

You've never met Chloe. Trust me, it's not easy.

There are also self dog wash places where they provide the soap and dryer and you do the work. It's about $15 I think but no grooming. I kind of like the idea becuase your not clogging your drain.

We have one of those places..............I might give it a try.

I have two dogs currently (Just lost one :() and we take them to Gurnee Petsmart every four week's and have always tipped. They do a wonderful job and my dogs are not freaked to go there and they actually leave happy which to me is wonderful. I have PT next door so they bend over backwards to let me bring them in at 7 and have them both ready at 10am when I am done.

We took them to a well known groomer who charged me double and then clipped the cornea on my Maltese eye to to the tune of a huge vet bill and him being scared to death, our groomer spent so much time working him back into grooming again I would pay double for how well they treat them there.

But I go to cheapy places for my hair while my dog's are quite stylish, they are our babies :)

Oh forgot to add make sure you sign up for emails in the grooming department it's different then the regular Petsmart email you will get some great grooming coupons, we usually have 10.00 off a bath and groom so we have them split the transaction per dog and they do save us also.

I have a friend who worked for petsmart--she made more money with tips than she did with her salary.
I don't have the money to take our dog to get groomed--we did just take her to a self wash place yesterday--can't say I was impressed--it was nice to not clog our drains in our house because of her long hair--but they told me we needed another thing of shampoo--cost more--and when we went to dry her--the hair was flying everywhere--I even asked if they had a broom or something for me to get some of it up--the lady wasn't helpful told me I should scoop it up and throw it out--I felt so bad--people were trying to walk in--we were at the place close to the door--and her hair was flying everywhere!!! We had her groomed once--and if we had the money I would do it more often--after this self bath thing--it would be well worth it!!!

I always cut Brody's hair...sometimes it comes out better than others. He is generally content to stand there and be groomed for as long as it takes. I find it much easier to cut his hair when he is wet so now I do it when he's in the tub getting his bath. I keep a little garbage can next to the tub and toss it as I cut it. He hates to have his legs done (idk why he'll stand perfectly still and let me cut the hair around his eyes so it's not like he's afraid of the scissors!). Won't let me trim his nails though.

I've only blown his coat dry once and that was about a month ago. Usually I give him a super good drying off with the towel and he dries au natural! His legs definitely need a professional groomer he's gotten so squirrelly he won't let me brush them like he used to so I think he's going to get the full treatment in a couple weeks and then I'll go back to maintaining him.

I shave my dog... she is a golden retriever (Tons of hair) and with our location, she attracts ticks. With as thick as her hair is, she can have an infestation of ticks or fleas very quickly. So I shave her down to very short. I wait for a nice warm day and do it right in the front yard. The birds will then take her hair and use it in their nests.

I do pay my neighbor girl $20 to clip the dog and cats' nails. I can not do this. Oh and in case anyone wondered... I do not have any animals anal glands expressed. My god at the amount of **** in the yard and litter box, there are no issues of expressions here. :bowing:

Why? Can't you just give her the prevenative meds? Goldens are so purdy.............if I had one I don't think I would ever wanna shave it.

I have and she throws up on the meds. Last year, we finally found one she can take without throwing up. Plus the hair factor, she sheds A LOT!

Mine won't either. Do you take him in to get them trimmed?

My cousin in law is a dog groomer and she used to do them for me. He's overdue and she's not been able to get over to do them, so he desperately needs to go have them done. I need to find a reasonable place to get them done. I can't take him to Petco by my house because they want his most current vaccination records which he doesn't have :hides:

Let me know if you find some one good. Last time I took Kramer to PetsMart it took 3 people and a muzzle to clip his nails. Did I mention he's only 18 pounds?

:lol::lol::lol:

Brody is not a fan, he gets squirmy but he will at least let my cousin in law do it when she can. Me? Not a chance! I've tried everything short of drugging him :giggles:

I even tried when he was Melatonin mellow...no dice.
