Well, it's a dark anime.
If you are not into dark stuff, dystopian setting, then don't go for it.

There is no plot, no character development, just a kid's fairy tail. I am not into dark stuff like tokyo ghoul but I do like some plot and action to go with it

Death Note is one of favorite anime till date. If my memory serves me correctly, I should have watched it at least 5 times and I'm still most likely going to watch it again.
