This is a game that whiled away many rainy weekend afternoons when I was a kid. You pick a subject and work thru the alphabet A-Z.
eg: subject might be RIVERS - consecutive threads may be Avon, Boyne, Colorado ... etc. You must use the next letter of the alphabet and keep to the subject. Once we get to Z, the next person can choose the next subject and start off with A again.
You can use reference books, etc. of course for difficult letters and if we really get stuck, skip to the next letter allowing a little time for people to think about it first!

AVOCET
