Some people call it "innercise" instead of exercise, and they maybe right. Yoga treat both your physical and mental health naturally, and in some cases (almost) effortlessly.
It is my favorite exercise....I mean innercise. It is a safe, gentle and low impact exercise, and very effective to improve your overall health. It will also help you stay in good shape if done regularly.
That's true Joe. I read that according to Svetasvatara Upanisad, the first signs of practicing yoga are lightness, health, absence of desire, a good complexion, a beautiful voice and an agreeable odor of the body, which are great.
I agree with you Seawolf. You have rightly coined a new term 'innercise' for yoga. Yes, you'll be rejuvenated internally and externally. Yoga keeps you healthy and fit. It's simple and extremely useful. I regularly do yoga twice a day and it keeps me in good stead.
I used to be very much into yoga in my youth and especially enjoyed the feeling I got when I stood on my head. I also learned to breathe properly through yoga but, alas, it's one of the things I stopped doing and never got back into and I'm too old now to stand on my head!
